harbour mark red bay co.antrim 6/11/10

People: me and jordan

Duration: 3.30pm - 11.30pm

Tide: HW 2340

Weather: 4 seasons in 1 day

Bait: rag, lug, razor, mack and sand eel

Rigs: 1 up 2 down and 3 hook flappers

Results: JORDAN 10 dab, 18 coalfish, 26 pollock, 4 whiting, 1 doggie and 1 codling
ME 8 dab, 3 flounder, 14 coalfish, 19 pollock, 2 doggies, 6 whiting and 1 pouting

Report: we had intended to fish a beach on the causeway coast where a few bass had been lifted from during the week. but as we were driving up the coast road we spotted one of our favourite marks had only 2 anglers on it, and to be completely honest i thought that with the wet forecast the place would have been packed. so jordan made that face (that all kids have down to a fine art when they want to get something) and the plans were scrapped and it was handy fishing from the car instead  . i would have preferred a bass session, but it seemed he had the right idea as the heavens opened and the temp fell through the floor. the coalies and pollock were pretty abundant with most of them being around the 30cm mark, with a few exceptions. jordan had one just shy of 40cm and the 2 lads to our left had a few around 50cm. the fella to jordans right had a cracking dab that must have been a good 40cm!! the biggest we've ever seen. as it got dark the other species came out to play and we had a good mix between us. it was a great nights fishing and we only had to go home early as we ran out of bait. the coalies and pollock were hammering anything put in front of them. the only down side of it was that if you turned your back for more than 30 seconds you had someone appear from a parked car and start casting over the top of you   . but with the rain the way it was, i suppose it was no surprise everyone headed for the comfort of the pier. i've purposely not mentioned the name of the mark as a few of us want to go back during the week, but i'm sure you'll be able to work it out from the pics  . if not just p.m. me and i'll disclose it to you,, just not on the open forum.

plenty again  I fished there last week for a bit but it was dire, I ended up around the corner at cushendall and was tortured with pin whiting, its getting near that time of the year when we will be heading up the north coast storm beaches again, probably bump into you 2 on Benone or Downhill over the winter.

Good result Al, especially for a daylight trip. Thought you'd fallen off the face of the earth. We are heading up to the Northcoast beach marks this week sometime, when the weather sorts itself out. Keepin our fingers crossed!

cheers man. was the water coloured up when you were there? i have noticed that when there is a lot of rain run off from the glens the fishing just dies a death at that spot :( . no doubt we'll bump into you at some point on a bass hunt :P . might even try to organize something for the lads to all meet up on the north coast soon. there seems to be a good run of bass from magilligan to ballycastle at the mo :P

tight lines wrote:super session well done thats some amount of fish

thanks man. the coalies and pollock were great fun on the spinning rods and you did'nt even have to cast out, just dropped down off the edge of the pier for doubles and trebles

saving private brian wrote:nice 1 al and j.thats the first report ive seen from ye in a while

hi brian. our fishing has taken a bit of a back seat lately   the recession is hitting hard with only part time hours for myself at the minute. so having to be carefull with the pennies

Dawsey wrote:Good session there guys. Got guilt tripped into working  Can just about get the shoes on now so i'll be tearing around again

we'll get you out and into the fish soon enough man

cheers paul. been doing a bit more pike fishing at the minute. the 2 lakes are only 20mins from the house and full of 20lb'ers. so with a freezer full of mackeral and very little spent on petrol it been a bit more cost effective on the old wallet. :)

cheers gerry. i should have really got a pic of it, and a few more of our fish too. but like i said, every time you walked away from your spot to go to the boot of the motor for a quick pic you ran the risk of losing your spot :x :x . but it was a cracker and easily a specimen. i was just gutted it did'nt impale it's self on my rig instead

  cheers man. with the way the weather has been lately i might give some of the clothing i bought for our trip to norway a trial run this winter

thanks gerry. we would have caught more only we ran outta bait :o :o and it was'nt like we went out short on the stuff. i had lifted enough outta the freezer for dawsey too. so even with him not able to make it we got through a pound of rag, a frozen wrap of lug, 10 mackeral fillets, a pack of sand eel and a pack of razor   but the 5 inch whiting were well fed, robbing every hook in front of them

Well done guys, great fishing. No matter where you two go, you's always manage to come up with the goods 8) K2 and I are thinking of taking a run up the coast sometime soon to see if there are any elusive Northern bass lurking about. I was speaking to Dawsey the other day and he said about perhaps us all getting a trip arranged and heading up together sometime which sounds like a plan. Let me know if your free or intersted and we'll take a run up and see what's about.
Great report and pictures.
