Not much to report but here goes all the same…
After been out last week on the West coast with Determined Dan, Doggie3131 and Goldwing, decided to give the East cost ago. The Weather forecast wasn’t too bad for today so hit for a Beach in Wicklow that I have fished a couple of times during the day with fairly good results (Hounds and Flounder). Arrived at the beach and had both rods out around 12:30 one at distance and one in close. There was a nice surf running and my hopes were high as soon as I saw it. Decided to try the end of the beach where I hadn’t fished before as the surf seemed bigger there. First cast resulted in a Coding on the near rod. Result! at least the Blank was saved. So what else is out there….? Rod Baited again with Sand-eel, (which was crap and all that I had in the freezer as it had been refrozen!) And out again. Anyway gave the second rod a good soak and then time to rebait when the trouble started! – Snag, Lost the lot… OK spare reel on, new trace & lead and out it went again at distance but in a different spot. The next three retrieves resulted in lost gear. It must be like a tackle graveyard out there I thought to my self, Rotten Bottom? Na – Move up the beach… So I did.
Moved up the Beach to where I had fished before in hope of some flats and put both rods out, it was better here but still lost another two traces etc and a lot of traces that I did get back were stripped (pin whiting??) Strange thing is that there were no snags there the last time, just goes to show how beaches change. All in all 3 Coding for the 3 hours and good to get out, even with lost gear - as that is part of it as well….
Final note, there was no weed about….
