Westie Session 03 - MAYO BASS BUSTED!

Tide: Incoming
Weather: Windy but Dry
Bait: Sand-eel, Lug, Rag, Razor, Squid, Peeler, Mac and anything else we could use…..
Rigs: Everything known to man

Results:
Me – 5 Flounder, 1 Mayo Bass & 1 Sea Trout
Mick – 6 Flounder, 1 Mayo Bass & 1 Sea Trout
Noel – 14 Flounder, 1 Mayo Bass
John – 5 Flounder, 1 Mayo Bass

Report:
WE all got to the beach and got set up for a good session. The current was pulling the leads and the surf was growing buy the hour .with us all set up and a quite start we all were wondering was the fish there at all. With noel off to a good start with 2 flounder and Mick with a good flounder right after him things started to look up. Noel was busy keeping the tiddlers entertained while john got off the mark with another flounder. I was wondering where the fleck was my flounder. And with a little rod tip shake my prayers were answered. SO blank saved for all. Then a roar from the left end of the beach Noel said MAYO Bass. Things were looking up as we all said there here. The flounder were still coming strong and I landed another fine flounder at 35cm long. Followed by Mick with a flounder the same size. We re-baited and I sent a bait out to the horizon and it didn’t hit the bottom when the rod top went bang, bang, bang. Could it be, I lifted into the rod and it was still there. 3 years of hunting the allusive MAYO Bass and was today going to be my day. O yes it was , result . With Noel ploughing through the surf to assist the MAYO Bass was landed, 2nd of the day. And a smile that could out shine the sun my day couldn’t get better. John was the next man on the beach with a MAYO Bass and it was time for a site meeting so we headed over to Mick to give him some support.{ get your finger out}. And the words of wisdom worked and he landed a double shot of fish one MAYO Bass and a flounder. So flounder and Bass all round Some session so far .With high tide and night falling the session was coming to a end .Then a surprise a sea trout for me another species off the list. SO session over and we all started to pack up when we heard a loud laugh. Mick had not only retrieved a trace from a crack off from earlier BUT he got a sea trout on the end of it. Jammy sod. So session over great day fishing and one I won’t forget. MAYO Bass busted!!!!!!! Always good to met up with the lads for a session and I am sure they will add to this and upload pics if I have missed anything. Roll on the next session…….

NICE FISHING LADS

it was a class day all right,great weather,good company,and mission accomplished dan! ya got your fish,a MAYO bass,never mind those easy east coast wans,ya got the holy grail dan,a MAYO bass.nice for mick to get one too,and the seatrout were just a bonus.john has the camara so he will post the pics,i LOVE that beach,it has never let us down!any day there are six flounder over 30 cm is good fishing and the MAYO bass,well thats just pure class.

brilliant session lads!! amazing to see the west throwing up so many bass in one session - what a great sign for the future!!

Yes Lads cracking session and well worth the drive. Must say, thanks for the "site meeting" and words of support (Get your Finger out) was begining to wonder if the Bass gods were against me ,but it did the job alright . I was made up with the double and two more species to the list. The MAYO Bass sure are allusive alright but well worth the wait. Great results all round and roll on the next one.....

Great report , fantastic photos , perfect session . Well done to all involved , got my first bass off that beach a couple of weeks ago too .
I was down there today , managed flounder and turbot , and the lads ( Frank & Ed i think ) had managed flounder , turbot , sea trout and bass , gotta love that beach

Great fishing, not many marks that will produce that variety during daylight.
