Ennereilly 16th oct

Sun Oct 17, 2010 8:51 pm

People:me and fishface

Duration:6-30pm-10-30pm

Tide:dropping

Weather:calm, mild, dry

Bait:crab,lug,rag,mack, squid

Rigs:pulleys and 2 hook flappers

Results:doggies, codling, whiting

Report:Went to Ennereilly with hopes of bass but a dropping tide and flat seas deflated that hope  . I got there first and fully laden down with enough gear and bait to last for one of Al and Jordans marathon sessions, I gamely trooped several hundred yards (theyre like metres to you younger folks  ) through the sand to push Neil to his limits when he arrived,,,,,,in fact I crawled the last 50 yds  . I felt like the marines must have felt on Iwo Jima struggling through all that volcanic ash  . The fact that I had several layers of t-shirts and a fleece under my floatation suit and that it was an exceptionally mild night for October didnt help I suppose  . Lesson learned for next time  .I had a doggie and a whiting on rag when Neil arrived. He never even moaned about his feet after the trek. He soon had a doggie as well and I was getting doubles of whiting and codling, happy days I thought, it'll only be a matter of time before we're hauling in the bass  .We both had crab baits at distance, and flappers with various worm/mack/squid cocktails. "Theres very few fish in the sea that can resist a well presented peeler crab bait", I reminded Neil as I remembered my tips from Sea Angler Magazine. A few hours later, with nothing touching any of our crab baits except a hermit crab which somehow got caught up in my bait elastic, Fishface was reminding me of my quote, but adding that I should just leave it as "Theres very few fish in the sea  ".In fairness, I knew it would be a dropping tide and though the light winds were non existant, I just wanted to get out and fish. You know where this is going, yes its time for the old "It was good to be out being at one with nature",,,,,its true though  , and its good to be alive,,considering the alternative  . I'm still thinking of all that lovely crab going untouched though  ,,,,,,,,,,,but theres always next time  I include a few pics for effect

I said it before and I'll say it again. I hate that beach! And yes Iwo Jima is the best description for it yet. Keep the crab for the cod Dave. A nice trip to Waterford should be on the cards.

  Oh Dave mate, I just love reading your reports, they are so funny  It's just what I needed to put a smile on my bake on what has been a horrible Monday morning in work for me so far :( As you said, at least you got out and enjoyed the fresh air, it beats sitting in the house looking at the four walls and being nagged at anyday does it not
Bring a wheelbarrow with you the next time and put yourself and all the gear and bait in it and Neil can push you there, now how about that for a great idea!! I don't think Neil will agree though.......
At least all your effort wasn't wasted and you managed to catch something even if it wasn't the bass that you went for. With all of those lovely juicy crabs get yourself down to Waterford pronto!
Great report, well done guys.
