Sun Oct 10, 2010 8:40 pm

People: Myself and my Dad

Duration: 2hours

Tide:Rising

Weather:overcast and cloudy

Bait: razor

Rigs: 2 hook flapper

Results: 2 bass and a plaice

Report:

Headed to the beach to get there about an hour before high tide, nice surf rolling in and no weed in sight. After a couple of casts out had the first bend on the rod and landed my first bass ever (51cm). Next cast out and reeling back in within 2 mins with a nice sized plaice. 20 mins later another bass on the hook, smaller one this time at 45cm.

good day at the beach :) pic of the plaice didnt come out that well.

Congrads on the bass,i reckon the plaice is actually a flounder though none the less good results suprised that beach was fishable had a look at it the other night but unfishable with masses of weed,ye did really well.

thanks... great feeling allright. Had tried for a while but no luck, and then 2 close enough. I'm afraid the pic doesnt do justice to the flatfish, will need to bring a proper camera the next time instead of using the phone. There was orange spots on the flatfish, not bright orange but noticeable enough when your holding it in your hand, so thats why I believed it was a plaice ?
Any better way to tell them apart ?

Flounder can have orange spots too. It looks like a flounder. Plaice have a few bony lumps on their head at the top of the lateral line. That's the easiest way to identify them.
