Report:
Headed down to Portrush on Friday morning with 5 other fellas from work for a wee mini comp. The weather was bloody awful around home for me with the rain pouring down from before 8am, I was not looking forward to standing out in it! Lol
But as we got to Portrush the rain had cleared complelty and the sun even dared to sneak through the clouds! So we all headed up around Ramoure Head, looking for a place low down as the rocks were very wet and slippy and we didn’t fancy trying to carry someone back up after falling!
The first hour wasn’t that productive for us all as we were all out at distance and having no luck. The fella beside me switched to floating which brought him great success as he was pulling in some nice wrasse on worms. I landed one wrasse at distance but that was my lot for a while. We moved around the head towards the car park as the water was starting to get choppy at the head.
This produced a variety of results with a lot of coalies being pulled in, all quite small.
We then moved around to the car park near the blue pool to a decent mark I had been to a few times.
I sadly didn’t get any better though I did christen my spinning rod by landing a few mackerel with my nice new spinners! Lol
The other fellas landed a nice Pollock, loads of dogs and one trigger fish! Which put up one hell of a fight before it was actually landed. I thought it was a dog fish at first but big Robert wasn’t to be denied his fish and fought it in and landed it. Cracking fish as you can see from the pictures.
Great day’s craic with William landing near 17 fish to win overall on the day and he landed the heaviest fish as well. I only got 4 all day which was pathetic! Lol
Ballycastle – sat 2nd Oct.
With the missus at work and a nice day breaking at 9am I decided to head to a place to fish where I hadn’t been in years. Headed down to the pans rock in ballycastle beach. Armed with a few mackerel fillets I tried to get some fresh rag but couldn’t believe it when I tried Bells shop on the main street that they didn’t sell live bait. The guy even told me it was very hard to get this time of year! Lol Jesus we had 10 bags between us the day before!
So headed on down to the beach to find fecking large waves crashing onto the shore. When I got to the rocks there was two fellas float fishing off the end. I went down to the end and noticed, to my fear that the waves were crashing far higher than I had ever seen them on those rocks for my liking. Far too bloody dangerous so I backed off a bit to somewhere safer on the rocks.
I tied up a float rig on my new spinning rod and tried it. Landed fish after fish for near an hour and a half. My brother and the nephew landed down for a visit and I let him have a go to see if he could catch anything. Lol well he did after 20 secs in the water! The nephew, who 5, wanted to take them home for his fish tank!
We then abandoned our position very quickly when a wave sneaked behind us and I wasn’t comfortable being there anymore, esp. with my nephew there. Safety first and all that.
But a great weekends fishing was had. My girlfriend has now told me I’m officially obsessed with fishing now!

Need to keep an eye on the tide fishing on the Pan Rocks. Have been pushed off there before by massive waves, even on a relatively calm day!! Fair play for landing a few fish!!
