Donegal way 25 Sept 10

Decided to take a wander to Donegal to see what was on offer over there. One almighty trip and I'm not too sure Tom- Tom really knew where it was going most of the time, must get a map for the next trip.

Ended up somewhere near Cruik Island about an hour after low water slightly nervous as I had no bait. Managed to find a little harbour and dug plenty if lug without any problems. Shame it didn't look worth fishing, it was a gorgeous little place. Only thing now was to find a spot to fish, which wasn't as easy as I thought it would be. Some kind chap pointed me in the direction of a worthwhile beach and I set off to find it. A 4x4 would have moaned at some of the tracks I went down, but my little astra struggled through brilliantly.

Anyway, the fishing. I'd managed to find the Donegal kennels. Not much else to add really. Lug or mack made no difference, it was doggie after doggie. Ended up with about 10 of them instead of the turbot or ray I was hoping for. Still a wonderful place to be and nice to get out. If anybody can put me onto a few more accessible marks I'd really appreciate it.

Where abouts are you based Bootster.

I'm in Belfast pal, so doesn't make too much difference where I go, it's a trek wherever I go. Looking at a map I think Donegal and Killibegs way is easier to get to though

Cruit island is a stunning place but I have not fished there for a long time and the stout is good too
As Tom said give a hollar when coming down this way again
the heart of Inishowen is only 20mins from Derry so 2 hrs from Belfast and you will be fishing

great part of the world to be scouting around man. the fishing on the island can be great on it's day. when you get onto the island you head for the golf course and there are some great mark rocks to the left up at the cottages or turn right through the golf course to the wee harbour. always worth a chuck man . but county antrim has some good fishing to offer too without having to spend so much on fuel added to that. less time spent driving means more time fishing . if you fancy a run out to a mark a bit closer to home at the weekend give me a shout man and we'll get something sorted

Thanks for the offers lads. When I can get away again I'll drop you a few pms. It's all well and good having simply stunning scenery, but the last thing I want to do is upset people by wandering over thier land or parking in the wrong place. I've simply no idea how to get to the sea half the time. Still, it's a change from non stop whiting so I can't complain too much

A lot of miles covered there and some great fishing to be had if you know the marks. Never listen to Al, he has probably used an oil refinery this year . Tom and Don will certainly point you in the right direction and theyre damn good crac.

have to agree with al. north antrim has some great places to fish from. i will be in portrush on fri morning with 5 other fellas for a mini comp between the lot of us, 5er in winner takes all! lol

but off the rocks up there is def good craic with a good mix of conger, wrasse, pollock, mack and doggies. def good days entertainment
