headed down on sat moring and met a friend down at the harbour in portrush. was a cold enough morning with a chill in the air. i noticed a fair few heading to fish the harbour that time in the morning already. went to the shop and purchased a few bags of rag and also ended up buying a new 12 ft spinning rod! lol
the guy in the shop was telling me that people had been pulling mackeral in steady due to the unsettle water in and around the blue pool area. but i couldnt be bothered with it and left the spinning rod for another day as i had penty of worms and mackeral to use up.
set up in mark we had been a few times and had sucess near the blue pool (which was bunged already wih people looking for mackeral). the sea was pretty rough at this point which ment we had to set up higher on the rock to avoid being soalked or drowned!
i was in the water 20 secs, and i kid you not, when i got a big bite and ended up landing a nice big pollock which took the mackeral. cracking fish which made its way to my mothers home for her dinner!
but it didnt get much better after that for the next hour, between us we lost a fair bit of tackel as the sea was very rough and we kept getting caught up. but we stuck it out and were rewarded for it.
at the end up i managed to catch 3 dogs, 3 pollock and small wrasse with my mate cathing his first ever dog on his first fishing rod he had bought that day! so i have now got a beginner completly hooked onto fishing after landing that fish
great days craic was had between us.
i have pictures on my phone and will get them uploaded in work on monday morning.
