People:me

Duration:4-30pm-8-30pm

Tide:rising

Weather:nice,slight NE breeze

Bait:rag and 2 crabs

Rigs:2 hook flapper and mini rigs

Results:codling, whiting, scorpion fish, pollock, coalies, corkwing wrasse, shore rockling

Report:Went to Bray Harbour midweek with some manky lug and had lots of whiting and codling,,,,,so I decided to hit Greystones on Friday afternoon. Had the spot to myself again for the evening surprisingly  so I got set up and it didnt take long to sniff out some bites, first from small coalies and then pollock. I had one rod out but once again all I got on this was a couple of whiting and it was the in close rod that was giving me all the joy . I took a few pics of the different species for the report. Lost 2 rigs but got plenty of species including codling, whiting, scorpion fish, pollock, coalies, corkwing wrasse, and the piƩce de resistance, a 34cm(35cm if you count from the barbules and I do!) shore rockling, a personal best 8) .Coalies and pollock were up first and i'd swear those pollock are getting cuter and learning how to sneak the bait off the hooks. The small codling were hammerring the bait  . Then it was the scorpion fish's turn and I got 3 in quick succession. The last time I was here I had lots of wrasse, but that was a falling tide , and I had to wait a good while this time to get just the 2 wrasse, one after the other, just after high tide. I had tried a crab at distance with no luck so I decided to cut one in half, upsize my hook size and try it in close for a decent fish, maybe a big wrasse or even a Bass  .I lobbed it in between the rocks under me and sat back to enjoy me Kit-Kat and can of 7-up,,,,,,,,then the small rod doubled over,,first of all I thought it was the wave action doing it but it kept up out of sync with the waves and I struck in and felt a half decent fish on. I was delighted to lift up a nice shore rockling , really fat and thick, who spat the crab out as soon as he hit the deck, lucky or what   .I took a few pics and brought him down to a lower level to put him back  . I had been happy enough with the session but this was the icing on the cake 8) .The bites died off as it got dark funny enough but I didnt mind as the love of my life was collecting me at 8-30pm after getting her trademark Shirley Temple curls ironed out and straightened. "Yes ,,,,,,,,,I do like it!!,,,Its ,,,,,,,,,,,,emmmmmm,,,,,,,,,,errrrrr,,,,lovely", I said. It was like driving home with a stranger

I havent been there that much this Summer Al, further south has been good to us this year, but its a nice relaxing spot, until our 4 legged friends (shiver  ) come out to play

Thanks Eeler, I was dissappointed with the photo, as it doesnt really get the size across, he was a fine lump of a fish, as thick as my arm. I was absolutely delighted, and so lucky to land him as he wasnt hooked , just had the crab in his mouth as I lifted him up about 12 feet
