Thu Sep 16, 2010 9:19 am

People: Bingham, Drew

Duration: Probably about 6-7 hours fishing.

Tide: Pushing, High

Weather: Windy, Showery

Bait: Rag, Lug, Razor, Crab, Mackeral, Sandeel

Rigs: Loops and such like

Results:
Flounder, Dab, Plaice, Coalfish, Pollack, Whiting, Ballan Wrasse, Mackeral...

Report:

Seemed like this was going to be a day of total disgusting epic fails. We started off at Cushendun got the beach shlelter set up just in time for the first deluge to hit us. We fished rods at all ranges with every possible bait combination, and didn't get a knock. We had gannets going in within casting range. They were probably on the Mackeral. But after 3 hours of the worst fail I think I've ever had on a beach we decided to re-evaluate the situation.

So it was off down the coast to a banker. Got set up in the corner of waterfoot pier, and within 10 minutes Bingham and I had both caught fish. Any gods amount of wee coalies down there, plus a Wrasse for Bingham. Happy days, no more blank.

Turfed the rods out to range, and managed a good selection of fish with Flounder, Dab, Plaice and Whiting all coming to these rods.
There was a large trawler like vessel in the middle of the bay, wasn't sure what was going on with this, as it had 2 "wings" on it... Powered by Red bull I guess.

Binghams in close rod also did the business with a couple of Mackeral, and a nice Coaly, one of which feel to a Lug and Razor cocktail! Sooooo weird! This man could catch a mackeral in a duck pond! lol

I think that about covers it.... Oh... There were some epic epic fails....

Bingham misfired one of his casts and I got 5oz of Gemini lead around the head, he lost the tip insert from his bass rod, and I managed to fall over several inaminate objects. Legend!

good to see you came good in the end man 8) . i can't believe how close those greedy trawlers come in :x :x . it amazes me how they cry about there not being decent catches and in the same breath have no quams about trawling nursery areas wiping out the future stocks of fish   . we watched 2 of them working the stretch of water between donaghadee and the copelands on monday. utter greed and madness man
