People:myself

Duration:!6.30-22.30

Tide:on the rise

Weather:started ok but the wind and rain arrived and didnt let up

Bait:crab,mac and rag

Rigs:many

Results:5 doggies, 3 bull huss and a decent smoothie :)

Report:After having a bad few weeks fishing wicklow/wexford I put my faith in a hunch and decided to fish a beach which threw up very little less than a week ago for me so off I went on my own with the highest of hopes.Arrived at the mark and it looked very "fishy" :P Set up the rod stand and threw out one rod with a pulley rig and peeler and another rod with mac and rag on a 2 hook flapper, then set about tying up a few rigs to keep me going for the evening. After 15 mins with no action I decided to check the baits only to find I was snagged on rock with both......2 rigs down straight away  Set up similiar end tackle/baits again and cast out a little further down the beach. Got the flapper right into a nice gulley and left it there. After 5 mins that rod started dancing and i reeled into it and pulled in a nice small bull huss.First one all year so I was delighted.Got a photo and returned him to fight another day.Hit the same spot again and in no time at all I had another 2 bull huss beached. They were only small but they were bull huss 8).The crab wasnt being touched, which I found a bit strange but needless to say I baited up the other rod with rag as well and as the tide was rising quickly there was no reason to change from the gully area. Got a couple of doggies over the next hour and as things had been so barren lately I was still chuffed with these.Just as I thought my luck had been used up for the day one of the rods bent into a good take and the stand nearly went over.I grabbed the rod and tightened the reel a bit and wound into it.After about 5 mins of a great fight I landed my PB smoothie, took a couple of snaps and watches him swim back out.....it was class. All quiet for a little while more and then 3 more doggies in quick succession. The rain was driving down and I was soaked to the bone.Got back to the car to discover my phone had got soaked through my wet gear  .It turned back on after a good drying out but Im only left with the pics of the smooth hound im afraid! All takes were on rag worm .Maybe the fact that the other bait had been frozen had something to do with it.Also I had no camera or measure with me  so I would appreciate an estimate of the weight of the fish in the picture. Its a box of rag beside him for a guide.Cheers :D

I'd say your hound is around 2, maybe 2 1/2 lb.

Nice you got a result on a beach that didnt fish well last time out
