2nd Sep

Myself and a mate Clayton met up at Land Sea Sports and hit the road in search of sea trout at Culdaff. Set up on the beach opposite the carpark and threw out three rods with sandeel nicely presented on an almost free line with just a small weight to get the cast out. Surf was running a bit so bite detection was impossible! Getting about 30-40 yards out with a 1oz bullet. Fished to low tide at about 7pm and just had 4 small turbot and a small flounder. No sea trout :(

Moved then to Bunagee Pier and fished through to dark when the tide was flooding again (high tide 1am). Used bluey here and a floated sandeel. Fishing again was extremely slow, had half an hour of action when we landed about 8 small coalies between us but none big enough for the pan, all taken on bluey and one on floated sandeel. Last fish of the night came an hour later in the form of a pretty decent doggie! A welcome surprise to a pretty boring session, at least he put up a bit of a fight. Packed up and went home..

3rd Sep

Returned to Culdaff myself in search of trout, bang on high tide. Set up again opposite the car park, then after an hour moved to the mouth of the river and fished a rod in the channel and a rod outside. No action whatsoever apart from crabs stealing bait! Moved back up the beach again and fished until about 6pm, managed a few small flounder to 25cm and a small turbot. Again nothing big enough for the pan! Just as well I had my gas stove and some rashers!!

Packed up after 6 and hit the road for Fahan. Arrived and was fishing for about 7. Spoke to another guy who had been there for an hour and nothing was biting. I moved down near the red buoy and set up my station with a bluey/sandeel cocktail out about 50 yards on each road. Decided to make myself a feast to keep me going and boy did it go down well!! The sun went down and the wind really started to pick up. Sat for 2 hours without a bite and by the time it got dark I decided to head for Buncrana Pier - Lisfannon is a bit eerie at night on your own! Set up on the pier and it was blowing an absolute gale. Spoke to 2 guys who had a fishless evening and soon packed up and left. I fished on til about 11 with nothing more than a few bites to show for my effort.

All in all bit of a disappointing 2 days - where the hell are the fish?!!??!

Few snaps...

Aye I hadn't had my gas stove out since I did my Duke of Edinburgh Award at school many years ago!! So I'm looking into investing in a new one, found an absolute cracker on ebay with a pot/lid/handle etc so think it'll be getting an upgrade and will be joining me on more expeditions.

Just on a side note, can't seem to edit my post above but thought I should point out we both had our Loughs Agency licences with us for targeting the trout on a rod each and the third rod was put out with bluey in the hope of picking up any other species on the go...

unlucky with the slow pace of fishing man :( . apparently the rocks to the left of the pier at bunagee fish a hell of a lot better than the beach or pier
