Report:
Decided to give my new spinning gear a thorough test (
viewtopic.php?f=28&t=28983) so headed to Dungarvan to try it on some bass. Overall very satisfied, the rod is spot on, and loaded with 8lb mono was throwing a 10g topy easily 60 yards. The reel is very nice too, perhaps if I was to fault it I'd say it's slightly heavy, but very smooth and fast on the retrieve.
Anyway, to the report.
Spent a few hours at the oyster beds in the ba for low tide, conditions were perfect but no fish to be seen, other than cruising mullet. Tried everything from bass bullets, to poppers to tobies, and eventually ended up with 3 schoolies of about 2lbs in four casts right at the death - must have hit on a shoal.
After that did a bit of roaming around trying a few different spots, mostly rock marks and managed to get 2 from 2 takes, both about 6lbs.
All released to fight another day.
Overall, very disappointing considering the conditions, roll on next trip in September, this time with the boat
