North Antrim Wed 25th & Thurs 26th Aug. 1 target reached!!

People:Myself and 3 mates

Duration:about 9 hours each day

Tide:all states

Weather:SUN SUN and More SUN

Bait:rag, mack, sand eel, squid.

Rigs:conger rigs, rotten bottoms, 2 hook flappers etc etc!

Results:CONGER to 7lbs, wrasse to 2lb 10oz, pollock to 3lb, dogs, flonder




Report:

Some of the mates decided to head up to the coast for a bit of a short break, to include plenty of wine and beer drinking and a well known night club also lots of fishing.

Wed 25th - North Antrim Rock mark

Some of the guys were new to the sport and I have to say picked it up very quickly after having to tie trace after trace for the 1st 2 hours they all managed to get sorted after this. Fishing was fast and frantic for the entire session with wrasse in close from the off. I told the guys I could guarantee them each a fish within the first 5 mins of them fishing and sure enough they were all in to ballen wrasse of about a pound, they couldn't believe the scrap they gave!

I had the conger gear out in search of my 1st and within a few hours I had a run, but the wee fecker got off. He came back for another go about 30 mins later, I let him run for a good bit then I hit into him, and the rod started to shake violently. As I reeled him up the boys were going crazy, they couldn't believe I had hooked one of these boys and to be honest nor could I. I was very happy to get him up the rocks and get him t-barred and a pic

In total we must have had over 50 ballen wrasse and 20 corkwing wrasse, 6 dogs, 5 pollock, 3 coalies and a CONGER in the 9 hours we were out. Was a super session and the weather was awesome.







Thurs 26th - Whiterocks beach (11am-5pm), Mid Antrim rock mark (6 - 10.30)

A lovelly day again so we decided to hit a beach mark that I had never fished before, but to be honest the lads more interested in the tallent on the beach than the fishing so the fishing came a very distant 2nd after all the football, swimming and general clowning about. We only managed a few small flounder. I found a small sand eel shooting about the shallows, managed to beach him with the intention of bait


Time for a bit of serious fishing so we headed to a rock mark about 30 min drive away, to try for pollock wrasse and a flukey bass. Got set up on the rocks and straight away we were in to decent wrasse in close. I managed a ballen to 2lb 10oz, which put up a great scrap.

I decided to deep spin the sand eel that I had found earlier in the day and within my second cast I hooked my biggest shore caught pollock, just tipping the scales and 3lb, I was over the moon, another few pollock fell to the spun sand eel.

Thanks Dave, there was definitely plenty of talent about, I have been reliably informed that we were quite possibly in the worst spot on the entire beach to fish but then again we had plenty to keep us happy
