Report:
Got a txt from Steve as he was digging lug and asked if I wanted to target some specimen bass, having been told the lug were being added to an already abundant bait supply (peeler, sandeel and massive razor). Needless to say, it wasn’t long before long we had made arrangements

. We hit a small stretch of sand that Steve had known and were happy to see a nice little bit of surf running.
Quickly setup, lug lobbed out on one-up/one-down rigs and razor lashed to pennel/pulleys. (In Steve’s case, he was using full razors – it looked like he was casting full white puddings out to sea

).
Weed was a little troublesome to start. There wasn’t a huge amount about, but what was there, was in big clumps! Thankfully, the situation improved before long

.
As darkness fell, we were quietly optimistic. My ratchet was the first to fire on the razor, but alas, no hookup

. Soon after, Steve was in with the first bass of about 1.5lbs. I followed a little later with my first flounder of the night, a nice thick lad of 35cm, followed-up with a 29cm fella, and just as thick (and we're not talking brain-power here

). Steve then pulled in a small whiting. When my rod tip wiggled, I thought it was my turn to pull in a whiting. As I wound him in, Steve came over and just as I was picking him up to unhook him, (whiting on the brain and all that), Steve shouts “That’s a f***ing weaver!”.
Well, you never saw anyone drop a fish like I dropped that sucker

. Damn, talk about a close shave! As he buried himself in the sand, there was no mistaking his black dorsal fins just above the surface! (“Shudda gone to Spec savers!” springs to mind!). Thanks Steve, you saved me a lot of pain (not sure which would have been worse, the weaver sting or Steve driving me home

).
We were kept fairly busy all night with plenty of fish and a bit of variety. My biggest flattie of the night was a 37cm flounder. (Biggest flats I’ve seen in a while). Steve landed 2 more bass to 2.5lbs, making some nice screaming ratchet runs in the process

.
The tally at the end of the night was:
Martin: 1 bass, 11 flounder and 1 weaver.
Steve: 3 bass, 1 whiting, 1 place and 8 flounder.
No specimen bass, but a good nights fishing. Weather and conditions were perfect. In fact, if we’d forgotten our head-lights, we probably would have managed just fine without them, with a clear sky and bright moonlight. Finally dropped Steve off in the early morning sunshine, trying to keep his eyes open! I wouldn't mind, but we were only listening to the Wave on the way home

(I'd forgotten Steve is not used to being up this early in the morning

)
