Donaghadee 26/08/10 (Species I.D. Please)

Thu Aug 26, 2010 10:51 pm

People: Martin, Josh, and Drew

Duration: 7pm - 10pm

Tide: Pushing

Weather: Nice!

Bait: Ragworm

Rigs: Various

Results: Codling, Pollack, Coalies, Pouting, Poor Cod, Whiting, Tompot Blenny?

Report:

Was looking foreword to a nice trip down to Donaghadee with a mate. Didn't turn out that way and had little B*st*rds hanging around us all night.
I think I remember another forum member being put off Donaghadee pier by the wee inbreds and now I can see why. Put up with nothing but Sh*t for the entire night and it has really put me off EVER going back.

Right, Down to the report.

Fished from 7pm til 10pm. Plan was to get Shep another couple of species. Which happened over the course of the evening, as he got Pollack, Poor Cod, and Pouting to add to his list.

I was fishing for Wrasse in the rough in the back of the harbour when I pulled out what I believe was a little Tompot blenny, but I'd like a positive I.D. if Poss.

I also had a couple of Codling from back there.

I'm just so drunk off that some wee pricks can lay waste to the best of plans. Thank god it's nearly time for the local beaches again.

The little darlings down there can be right pains in the arses sometimes Drew. One night about 2 years ago, I didnt even take the rods out of the car cos they were riding a moped around the lighthouse  (but i went back at the same time the following night and had the pier to myself!) I try to plan my sessions there for rainy days if possible. It seems to keep the wee feckers under their stones!

Anyhow, rant over! Looks like a Tompot Blenny to me. Nice one

Planning on taking a run down to the Dee on Friday might - lets hope it buckets down lol

Was down on Wednesday night and just stayed an hour fishing of the back of the pier, every time I hooked a fish the area was bombarded with floats and rigs from a crowd standing at the end of the pier. They where on the outside of the railings so they could cast around the corner to where I was.

Soon be back to school time, that might thin them out a bit.

One night last year we were fishing straight down the edge for the minis.

Evrytime we got a fish (generally small wrasse, scorpions & rockling) 2 or 3 sets of feathers would land around us.

It was shame how we kept getting tangled up and I had to cut their traces to sort out the mess. You'd think that after 9-10 times they'd have realised. The annoying thing was that an hour earlier the same scroats had been down "borrowing" leads!

keep a reel out with you loaded with 30lb braid. after a few tangles and you start to get miffed off just strike for a clean break. 30lb braid goes through 15lb mono like a hot knife through butter  . they soon get the message and give you space :P

Its a pity assholes win every time!!! Maybe some forum members should organise a session at the dee, stand close together and shut the bas***ds out.
Also a good chance to meet up with fellow sportsmen/women.

Maybe it is time for a long overdue Northern Forum meet? Wouldn't have to be Donaghadee like....
