Greystones 14/08/10

Sat Aug 14, 2010 12:09 pm

People: Myself

Duration:5.30 am - 7.45 am

Tide: low at 7.30ish

Weather: Fine, slight breeze

Bait: Lure, Maria.

Rigs:

Results: 1 fat Bass, 27 " in length.

Report:Been waiting all week to get out and decided to fish the low tide which has produced before early in the morning, actually I've only had Macks and Pollock at high tide this year so wanted to see if the Bass were about at low water. As the water was getting lower I cast by a rock that was just starting to show, started to reel and got a heart stopping take, the fish gave a great scrap and took loads of line off the spool, great sport on light braid and an 8ft light rod and thats exactly why I downsized all my gear a few years ago. Anyway got the fish in and it was my best Bass ever landed, not sure of the size but looked close to 9lb, after a photo on my phone which I will try upload later I sent him back. A couple of casts later got another take but lost it, then I noticed I was getting wind knots after every cast and noticed my reel had packed in not alot to do then but head home.

Well done, lovely looking fish.
Just wondering if that was Greystones North Beach or South Beach

Just returned from Gresytones (back of Le Touche) at high tide, spinning
for mac. and pollack - lumpy seas - blanked. but will return next week
some early morning.

Thanks lads, appreciate the posts.

Ecofish, have had Bass from all locations around Greystones, It doesn't really matter where you are out there but you do need to put in the hours to know how it fishes, especially if its just lures you are using. I dont want to give the exact spot away but a fella there saw me putting the fish back and raced over to ask if he could have it 'seeing as I was putting it back like', , hopefully he won't ring Joe Duffy to complain!

Itv was only a Shimano Exage 4000 which I've had for a few years now, the spool was winding the line on in one spot and with braid it was just bunching up, it was also making a clicking sound after every turn. Funny thing is I was only looking at reels last Friday and the Shimano Rarenium 3000 looks like it might be joining me on my fishing trips sooner than I thought now.

8) shame about your reel lets face it they all last forever if they dont get used,i,m sure a bass like that will take the sting out of buying the new one
