Donaghadee pier

Sun Aug 08, 2010 6:06 pm

Hi people, fished the pier 1 1/2 hours before high tide til 2 hours after. Caught a small coalie on the float, 2 crabs on bottom. Im new to this saltwater fishing, and really enjoyed the trip, until a woman and 3 noisy kids arrived with 2 rods. Also some boat festival or something took place, and boats came hammering into the harbour every 10 seconds and the pier filled with people..... i surrendered. I enjoyed the new saltwater fishing {x trout man here] but will try a rock mark somewhere quieter . Any hints lads ??? :)

Donaghadee isn't usually that bad. You were stuck in the middle of the lifeboat centenery celebrations. Well done on the Coaly mind.

Billy,

I was the guy with the kid fishing next to you.

The only thing I noticed was that you were doing wrong was that you were using very big baits. Try using smaller baits (preferably ragworm) and you should connect with more fish although they won't be big.

An alternative would be to fish tight on the bottom with a big fish bait for the congers.

We caught a few small wrasse & pollock after you left. The crowds had thinned out a bit by then.
