Been looking for 1 of these feckers for long enough so i went to a local pier where i had seen them moving,
so i decided that it was time to go and catch another type of mullet,as i have only caught 1 before and it being
a golden gey mullet when i was living in england,and i was prepared to do what it took to catch my prey
so i set up and within an hour i was playing this lovely mullet on light tackle,a fresh water match rod and reel with 4lb
line straight all the way to the hook,great fight and over the moon it weighed 6lb 2oz's

Nice mullet - well done On the light tackle the scrap they give you is amazing isn't it!
I bet you needed that smoke just to calm your nerves down abit, those things would test anyone's patience!!

I dont mean to sound rude mate but it doesn`t look 6lb 2oz Maybe the photo doesn`t do it justice but i`d say it looks closer to 3lb 2oz

i weighed it on my scales on the pier and when i got home i put some potatoes into a
bag untill the scales went up to 6lb's 2 oz's and then transferred them to my kitchen
scales and they registered 6lb 2oz also, so i knew i was reporting the correct weight
and i don't lie about the weight of a fish,because i would only be cheating myself and
no one else,but thankyou to all my fellow angler's with saying welldone or congrats!!!!!

I thought you had a few mullet under your belt man else I would have put you on them long ago, a couple of the lads called around and we had a little debate about your fish size/weight,

Mainly to find out if you got one bigger than me -fish that is- My shite fly caught Mullet was weighed on new certified “electro Samson” scales and came in at 5.25lb,

We tried from every angle in our little mission to determine your mullets weight but the only thing we all agreed on was you should have kept the fish and threw the scale’s away instead

I’m not always right but I’m never wrong, check out the picture yourself and let me know what you think,

Well done , with all the mullet posts of late I will have to give get out the light tackle and have a go

No Davy,i did not miss the welldone on catching the mullet it just seemed to me that you was implying that
i was telling porkie's and thats 1 thing i dont do when i weigh a fish,and i have emailed a friend this evening
for him to bring down his scales so we can compare as if i am wrong i will put up the correct weight in this post as his scales are
certified digital scales,but as i have weighed them on 2 different scales already and i cant see there being any
difference,and no offence taken!!

I love mullet, I eat mullet, but I would agree it looks more like a 3lb er. Not saying you are incorrect but from the picture you posted it looks smaller, but don't worry, sometimes there are tricks to make a fish look bigger than it is, we all know them but on the flipside, sometimes a photo can make a fish look smaller that it is also

I'm going by the size of your hands in relation to its head size, and also its tailfin.

After our little chat on the phone where we got cut off -on purpose- just after you asked

I went and looked again at both pictures and to be honest I think I was being over generous when I said it was around 3.5 to 4lb,

And no I didn’t say your telling lies dude, so try not to put words in my mouth please, that’s why I hung up on you,

I know its your first mullet and you did good to get it, but I would put my boat / van and house up for grabs if it could be proved that your mullet was over 3.5lb,
I will even go with you to catch another fish to compare with this one by taking a few pictures of you holding it with the same stance as the picture above "elbows tucked in tight and all",

If you don’t agree that a mistake was made in you estimation after we compare the pictures - that would mean that it was me that made the mistake and my 5.25lb fish should be more like 7.5lb

I should be going after them next week so if you want to tag along your welcome. And ya i will bring the scales and you should bring yours - We can use your scales as a weight to hold the Ruby Duby a couple of feet under water

state of the tide that the fish was caught,but i do wish you luck with your boat and the
fish you target,as i was with that mullet i caught and i stand by it's weight whole heartedly.

i reckon the fishy tale was invented about the same time as the fish hook,
a long time ago. if you look at any photo of a fish in a magazine or the internet
and the claimed weight, dividing by three you will never be too far wrong!
if there's no photo the fish almost certainly does not exist. You
rarely hear of a tope caught that wasn't a specimen and a fair few are
records, unclaimed for conservation reasons of course.
anyway its all part of the fun and not worth getting annoyed about

i think we just have to take this poster on his word and in the spirit of the site enjoy the report and catch rather than splitting hairs over a weight that no one but the angler can know

enjoy getting a bigger one next time and do please put up a report, if we all stopped posting anytime we got guff the site would be empty

I had a big debate start about the weight of a conger before so I know it would put you off posting but the best thing is keep posting and make the begrudgers jealous

if your scales showed up 6lb 2oz's you should not have to prove it to others on the site,what's the big deal what weight the mullet was,you were fishing on your own and not in a Competition

well done on the mullet,i would love to get one as well

Looking and being are two different things, a fish can look a lot smaller than it actually weighs as photo's can be decieving.

All I can say is welldone on your first mullet, a great acheivment!!!

We fished together long enough for you to know that I only need a small push to go fishing and your little mullet has gave me that push,

I aint caught one this year and the idea of going after them with you appeals to me, camera or no camera, I promise not to mention your fish again unless you bring it up

But can I borrow your scales next week, I’m thinking of fishing a pike comp during the week and it will be heaviest fish wins, them scales might help me,

had a few too,great run in shallow water.
