Report:
had some rag left over from saturday which was starting to make the fridge smell funny so decided tiddler bashing at bangor pier would be one way to use it up. landed down with my coarse rod 6lb line and a largish stick float planning to fishing along the wall on the inside of the harbour for 5 to 6 inch pollock, coalies, pouting, wrasse or whatever was biting. Landed down and standing on the inside there was a strong enough wind blowing right in my face which made if difficult to use such light gear so headed round the other side of the wall. being sheltered from the wind it was perfectly calm and pleasant. first cast was a nice pollock of about a pound and in the next hour up to about half 7 i caught roughly 14 more the largest being a pound and a half. great fun on light tackle. the way the tide was running the float was being drifted perfectly parallel along the edge of the weeds (see pic) and was fishing about 10 foot deep, then the seal turned up and i got no more bites after that (coincidence?).
stuck it out for another 45 minutes with no joy so headed back round to the inside of the harbour and pick up a small coalie and pounting in the 6 inch area then headed home.
was a really nice way to kill a few hours and use up some stinky rag.
only down side was i forgot to bring a towel to wipe my hands on so had to use me jeans and ended up quite smelly. i pitied to poor girl i was standing beside in tescos when i stopped for food on the way home.
in addition the guys spinning for mackerel did actually catch a few but not many though there was a boat drifting about 200 yards out that was getting a fair few.
