Have been catching a fair number of codling over the last couple of weeks, not big but a very positive sign no less.

Caught some nice ones up to 3lb a couple of months back but now as you say mostly smaller fish.
Last year I couldn't get codling on any of my marks this year them seem to be back on these marks and a lot more besides.
Good sign I hope but also saw 2 trawlers working just off north beach Greystones and Bray Head a couple of weeks back so who knows?

I caught 4 small codling off an East Cork beach last Sunday night - that was surprising I thought they would have moved out to deeper water by now - the surface water temperatures may have warmed up considerably but maybe the bulk water temperature is still well below what it should be at this time of the year.

I could understand them being caught 1.5 months ago as the water was still cold - and I had a few myself in early May while trying for bass on several West Waterford beaches and from and East Cork estuarine mark, but it was astounding to get four of them the other night - and from a beach that isn't renound for them
