Arrived on site and couldn't wait to cast out as there was decent surf running. First cast - left if out for about 20 mins, reeled it in and there was masses and masses of weed caught on the main line all the way to the trace.... Sinking feeling in the stomach (its going to be one of those sesssions)!!!Second cast, the leader not gave way on me just as I had it in the suds. Spent 5 mins chasing a lump of weed down the beach with leader and trace entangled in it. Eventually got it.
The weed was savage and every cast the line/trace came back covered in weed and with out a a sniff of a fish. Was gonna head for the hills, but I had the day release slip and I wasn't going to waste it! Beefed up the shock leader, change to a single clip down with short snood, heavier weight to try and hold bottom + moved further up the beach and had the rod sitting as high up on the tripod as possible in an attempt to avoid as much weed . There was a few other lads further up the beach, don't know how they faired but by the looks of it they were having the same problem.
Bout half nine and without a bite, was gonna call it a day with nothing to show for it. Casted out and started to pack up, took my eye off the rod tip and when I looked at it a few mins later, strangely the line had gone very slack

. Started to reel in, and was greeted by weed, it all got caught around the rod tip, so had to put it back on the tripod to try and de clog the tip eye. Anyways started to reel in again and there was the unmistakeable pull of a fish on the end of the line

Eventually got him, he was no monster (41cm), but I was delighted! One more cast after that and then called it a day! Headed home covered in weed and happy as a pig in sh*t
