Report:

Tuesday the 29th June

With fishing being so good for the past while I just couldn’t help myself but get down for a couple of casts.
So grabbing the gear, I headed to the same mark that I fished last week. As soon as we arrived you could see the shoals of fish feeding on sprat- near the surface, the water was boiling with Mackerel & Coalies along with some fine Pollock mixed through them chasing the fleeing sprat - what a sight, we sat and watched them for half an hour. :D

Then back to spinning & from the off was catching Coalies & Mackerel nearly every cast, no matter what size hooks I used they would manage to impale themselves somehow on the lures  , at one stage was catching them in by their tails  . It was very hard to get to the bigger fish even with big lures & hooks, but great crack trying. :D

At one stage I was reeling in a small Pollock & a massive one made a lunge at him & just clipped his tail, I tried in vain but just couldn’t tempt him :( but not to worry I’ll get him again. For the last few minutes I thought I’d chance a wrasse I just love catching them, so on with a few limpets & landed a small one. Great session could have fished on & caught any amount but the thought of freshly fried Mackerel with homemade chips-it wasn’t long sending me on my way! :P Happy days!!

Wednesday 30th June

Well what can I say but I’m hooked just I can’t keep away.
Tried a different spot to see if I could dodge the Mackerel & Coalies & it paid off with a nice 3.5 lb Pollock & one Mac but then all went quiet, so after a bit of rock hopping went to a fairly shallow spot & after fifteen minutes landed two fine Pollock to just under the 5 lb mark :D & three Mackerel.

Thursday 1st July

A quick session to try & target the bigger Pollock, although swells had started to form making it very difficult to spin. What a difference a day can make, from been flat calf to very rough. I stuck it out for an hour & landed two Pollock biggest 4lb & one Coalie. Roll on the next session!!!

Fair play FK, another great few sessions on your marks 8) Hell of a lot of gulls in the background of the mack picture working the next bay over?
Really looking forward to getting over to Sligo next week and keeping the fingers crossed for some kind weather! Saying that I still managed to blank during an hour spinning on Sheepshead peninsula when over for a wedding in Cork the other weekend, so not the best of omens

Thanks macD, the gulls are feeding on loads of sprat that were traped. The spinning has been very good since mid April & most marks are fishing well so you should have no bother getting a few decent fish  plenty of Specimen wrasse been caught lately, might br worth a shot!!
