Report: Its great having a fishing buddy who can see the state of the sea from his front window and pass on the news to you.He can go ahead to marks like Kilgorman and suss them out ,and if its too windy and weedy can let you know its not worth the drive down

. That was the plan anyways and seeing as I hadnt received a text telling me otherwise I kept driving on to Kilgorman

.Neil was fishing away when I arrived .I started to set up but as Neil was hauling in a pile of weed in the strong wind we decided to opt for my initial plan of the sheltered and calmer Arklow South Beach,,even though Neil said there wasnt a hope in hell of a smoothie there

I pointed out to him that he had in fact technically blanked while I hadnt even set up so would escape the blank this time

.
We set up at Arklow,a few miles away but the sea was calm and the wind non existant. I had been away in Tramore for a few days with "Herself", (Not Stevecrows "Herself",but my own good wife) and it had been a bit of a disaster

.Snapped the mid section of my beachcaster on day 2, then my camera finally packed up after 3 years of constant fishing, salt, being bounced around rocks etc,,,,,,,,and to cap it all my back was in bits for the 3 days,I couldnt get out of the chair in the cottage, yet I insisted on spending hours on the rocks fishing each day

.Back to work on Saturday and my back was mysteriously cured, could it be the Cod Liver Oil kicking in

.The point of this sad story is that I was minus a beachcaster ,so Neil kindly offered to sell me one of his at a knock down price,so on a positive ending to the week I was now the proud owner of a 16 foot Greys Triplex and couldnt wait to try it out. Neil was first off the mark though with a fine pin whiting and we soon were both catching. I got my first fish on the Triplex, a Dab

.I fished 2 rods , the Penn Surfblaster in n close but I was really impressed with the distance I was getting from the Triplex with just an overhead thump,i've never been much of a big caster, but this rod was getting me out where I havent been previously

. There were a nice few fish around, dabs and whiting mainly, and we ended up with about 10 fish each. I was delighted when I tried a crab bait, told Neil that i'd never caught much on frozen crab,,and then landed a small pup smoothie

. Neil finished up with a doggie, but as it was nearly 11pm and just getting dark ,with work the next morning and an hours drive home, I packed up and headed home.Nice little session for a Sunday evening
