the clare session

Sun Jun 27, 2010 4:53 pm

Myself and john had a session down in clare a few weeks ago,and I wrote a LONG report but thru carelessness I lost the bloody thing  ,and its taken me this long to rewrite it, we were on a connamara beach on the friday night with turbot for john the target, well, on the way there we had a pitstop in leenane, which went on a bit longer than expected, we eventually got to the mark and set up,within ten minutes john had got his target species! A nice turbot 25cm,the fish came on the feed, and it was nearly a fish a cast after that, dabs and flounder up to 28cm another species for john,as he had not had a dab before,we quit about one,as we had a long drive down to clare in the morning, and had planned a early start, unfortuntully we also had four litres of devils bit cider in the motor which we HAD to finish, soo..... we were on the road a LOT later than planned the next day, which meant we did not get to the mark till about three! Wrasse were the target fish here and soon after I dropped a bait down,i had my first corkwing wrasse of the season,i was just starting to slag john, when he got a cracker of a bite and his rod bent double,a fine ballen wrasse was soon landed after a fantastic fight on johns light spinning rod.it weighed 3lb4oz! This is the way it went for the next three hours, with ballens coming thick and fast, mostly to john I hate to say,the slagging I got!! :D :D but I had a few too,and was not too upset.john also got a nice pollock about two lb.we quit at six as england were playing, and went to O Looneys Pub in Lihinch, which has to be the best pub in clare! 8) and proceeded to celebrate a bit too much, but what the hell,we were on tour! :D :D

Don't know the pub Noel you've mentioned but seems to be worth a try next time I'm out there, we always go to the one just up from Fenore but that's a different story altogether   nice report btw :D
