East Cork 25-06-10

Had a few hours on a well know bass beach in east cork wasnt meant to fish to for once had the spinning rods in the car and the missus gave the go ahead as it is a long beach we started below the car park and worked our way down the beach......i had a storm shad on in a sardine colour wasnt expecting much as i have never heard or seen people spinning on this beach i only hooked one bass but it was well over my PB of 8lbs or so but as i reached into the water to grab it it spat the lure and escaped even today i felt like s**t the thought of almost haveing a bass of at least 10 lbs slip through my fingers i could have cried :( :( :( , if only it was a plug or toby as the shad only has a single hook on top then maybe i would be posting this in specimen corner :( :( , bloody shads   , oh well just thought i would share my pain.

bass this size are usually solitary, good chances she'll still be there, give it a go again today - with a different lure obviously, a plain silver or striped toby might work or something else shiny or silvery, good luck and try beaching her this time

Only winding things up Donal  ....the fish is still there to be had :D . Unlucky Wilky, at least you know there is fish of that size there; perserverance is the key!

...and by the way, stick with the shad, you're just as likely to lose a fish of that size on a plug despite all the trebles!

Another thing i meant to mention was the presence of dozens of tiny flatfish everywhere in the shallow water , all the size of a €2 coin , one got stuck under my foot while casting and it frightened the s*** outta me............AH weaver fish i screamed, got some weird looks from people walking on the beach   , great thing to see though i think they were turbots, but not sure.

I went down there yesterday to feed your “smiling bass” and caught plenty of small turbot in the surf.
A lot of green weed in the water made bite detection impossible
Had a few fish that did show on the rod tip but no sigh of your “smiling bass”
