Hi all
Went to Ardglass last sat. afternoon (19.06.10) fished from about 2pm to 7pm at the end of the pier. At first it was slow and the other 4 guys fishing there were having it slow also, but as normal the spirits were high after all it was a lovely day, so lovely the seals were just laying on their backs taking the rays. At about 4 pm the bites started and everyone started to catch fish (pollock & coalfish) most of the fish were small and were returned much to the delight of the seals. I was using a float and was fishing at about 12 feet, bait was mack the other guys were using prawns and fishing on the bottom. My total for the day was 4 pollock and 8 coalfish. My best fish was a pollock at about 1 lb. Overall a good day fishing and a good day out.

Nice day out Robert, well done. I'll be taking a run down there myself soon to see if there is any mackerel about, it can be very good down there for them on the pier.
The seals can be a nuisance sometimes though, you have to quick at reeling your fish in or they could get it on you before you land it.
I speak from experience when I say this. I remember one day in particular when this happened to me. I got a good bite on the float and so I struck it and started reeling in. I knew I had at least one mackerel on but when I got it right up to me the tail of it had been biten off by a seal! And there it was sitting looking up at me all pleased with itself. So I don't cast out as far now so that I can get any fish I catch in quicker before the seals get it. It was good craic all the same. It wouldn't be as funny though if you hooked one, they are massive brutes down there.
