Weather: glorius sunshine but windy at times!

Bait: lug, rag, mac, sandeel, crab, squid

Rigs: all sorts

Results: ray, dog, wrasse, pollack, coalie, flounder, turbot, whiting, rockling

Report: got to donegal late and started fishing on culdaff beach round midnight - a few small flats biggest probably 25cm were had by all - a few coalies round the pound mark were had by 2 of the lads - was expecting much more - but this was over the high water maybe its better on the lw for the flats - nothing really happening at distance - very cold wind bed 4.30am

saturday headed to rocks on the west of kinnego bay - thinking we would get out of the wind - the ground was very rough - spent most time tying new rigs or shock leader - no real platforms to spin or ledger from after a good 30 min walk - the rocks so uneven

bit of a disaster really - one of the lads had 2 wrasse, rest of us blanked

some nice people had been camping and left a load of their rubbish - indicating that someone must come down this side - but dont think i would ever go back there

headed onto the beach there as most the swimmers had headed on, but then was swamped with weed - packed that up after an hour - regrouped and decided to go to shroove

had a turbo second cast and then a few more flounder between us - a friend of sweet wrasse turned up and had a flounder - no blanks but really small flatties - barely any over 20! - i had a rockling - half eaten by a seal i reckon to break up the monotony

the weed eased but the fishing didnt really improve - nothing on the distance rods

packed this up and headed down to the upper pier in moville - most of us were thinking more on the lines of the pub with the fishing so poor - but we followed sweetwrasse - who started a bit of a pin whiting bash

we used the fresh bait to get a dog for me and a ray for shamoo as the tide turned the fishing died - but like fools we stayed at it until 3

paddyb on the site here gave us a rock mark and with the NW wind dieing down we tried the spot on the sunday

it was a steep climb down but looked very fishy - casting out to sea the current was taking everything on the bottom - 6oz grips were no good

so went ledgering on the bottom - got a wrasse at the front but that was it - eventually we were all spining into the little bay than to see

sweetwrasse got coalies on the feathers and then some small pollack - denis got the fish of the day a 3lb pollack - shamoo has some small pollack also

i was set on legdering trying to get large wrasse had one about 2lb but none any bigger - had the crabs down there and it didnt bring the bigger ones on

had fishbaits down on the rotten bottoms and they werent even picked by the crabs!!!

we packed up after 4 hours as we were heading back to dublin

all told not amazing fishing - but with the fine sunshine inisowen looked amazing - that mark on the sunday screamed huge potential with plenty of deep water at the feet

will definitely go back there again - as for the beaches maybe we needed to be fishing them over the low water

Yeah we really had to grind out a few fish Really baffled at Culdaff not throwing up a few more flats, it's a bad day when you resort to tiddlers off Moville pier The fish are there, we'll be back!

Everywhere is throwing up small fish at the minute! Fished Culdaff last Friday at low water and it was full of tiddlers! Leenan beach was the same yesterday! Just out of curiosity was it Moville that yous got the Ray? Would be nice if we could get the rays around that area!

Was disappointed with the quality of the fish from the rock and beach marks, but cant complain getting my ray off moville pier

Dont know was the poor stamp of fish down to the strong northerly winds, or our bad fishing technique

My first time in Co Donegal though, what a beautiful part of the country, and good craic with the boys so it was a very enjoyable weekend away even if the fishing wasnt quite what we expected.

Sorry to hear the fishing was so poor lad! Im glad you liked that mark, your right, it does scream of fish, did you's have much trouble finding it?

no your directions were impeccable paddy - have to say we were all very impressed - the walk while steep was not too bad - compared to what we put ourselves through on the saturday down at kinnego - it was a walk in the park!!!

it seems the northerly winds and weak tides kept the fish down for others reports on here from up that area

fingers crossed that the big tides will do the business this weekend

unlucky with the fishing lads..northerly are a pain in the hole.. I have only ever fished culdaff twice and got small turbot of it... lenan pier is a great spot and the beach can throw up some very decent fish.. Donegal is a powerful spot

I have a rough Idea where you's went on saturday I was fishing the Findlater on Saturday over in Killybegs otherwise I would have arranged to meet up with ye. Notherly and easterly winds do tend to put the fish off up this direction.
There is an open boat comp in Culdaff on the weekend of the 24th and 25th of July, the fishing is normally excellent up here at that time of year if yous are interested.

Hi Ronan, Upper pier at Moville just after high water. Worth a go if you fancy a handy spot. As proven by Shamoo

unlucky with the poor sessions lads northerly winds scuppered our saturday session in portrush across the foyle too nothing worse than doing all the right things only for the weather to play havoc with your plans .
