People:me and my brother Max
Duration:3 hours
Tide:rising
Weather:brilliant
Bait:peeler crabs
Rigs:pulley 2/0
Results:4 smoothies
Report:The weather and the tide looking good, decided to have another go after smoothounds (again!) ...
For a change went to the usual mark

...
Unfortunately after 3 weeks of brilliant fishing, I think they finally move and left only a couple and toddlers and a very small hungry baby behind them

...
Got three around 2-3 lbs and a very small one (less than a pound) ...
With the lack of action, tireness got the best from us and we decided to head home ...

Hey Eric, you bring me some news here

... How do you see the difference between a tope and a hound when they are so small?
By the black on the tip of the fin?
Well my brother is going to be over the moon, because he was saying he will catch a tope before me

...
Thanks for the info

basically they have teeth and smoothounds dont. but the general shape of a pup tope is much stockier than a smoothy pup and the tail fin is different with that distinctive cut in the middle of it. they eyes are larger too.

Cool, thanks, didn't think there was some there ... Next time I'll check for teeth

...
I have another question (lots of question about tope, after seeing all these reports about tope, it's my new "obsession"

...): Is it possible to catch bigger ones where you catch pups?
Cheers ...

theoretically yes of course. tope are ovoviviparous, meaning they give birth to live young after holding the fertilised eggs internally in the mother until they are ready to hatch so the mummies must be nearbye. as well as this most the shore marls for tope i know throw up pups, but it really is a case of putting the hours in.

Thanks Eric, your answer is brilliant

...
When it comes to fishing I love hard work, and as the place is a short drive from home it's very handy to put a lot of hours in after work

...
Let's find some tope trace

...
Keep you updated ...
