Duration:08:30 to 20:00

Tide:low 12:19 0.9m high 18:42 5.1m

Weather:some showers and a very strong wind from the west

Bait:mackerel,sandeel,squid,feathers

Rigs:conger rigs,2 hook flappers,feathers

Results:2 pollack,spider crab

Report:met up with peterw and paddy in the morning to try my mark for conger and huss,it was very rough at the mark,we all lost gear and didn't get any bites
we left the mark about 12:00 and the lads headed for home,it was great to meet the lads and have a session

as we were leaving we saw 5 lads with landing net and waders walking in the low water in a small bay i drove over to the bay and got out to have a look and walked over to have a chat to see what they were getting but they saw me and all walked out further in the water,to me it seemed that they were after crab in the weed,i had a look in their cars and not a bit of fishing gear to be seen, they were in 2 French reg cars, just wondering do you need a licence to collect bait on that scale

i decided to try find a mark that i could have the wind at by back so decided to head to south connemara to try find some new marks, had a not so quick stop at stanleys in clifden to stock up on bait and conger rigs and other gear, ended up behind the counter giving advice to another angler on marks  had a good chat with john about fishing and some of the new fishing gear he got in as well

i left stanleys and headed south,i had a good look at a lot of spots and in the end stopped to fish on the end of a pier,i set up the conger rod and dropped it in close and cast out the other rod out far, then went over to a boat that came in to have a chat with the lads, they said the fishing was very quite all day, only about 10 mackerel caught between them

went back to check the bait and reeled in a spider crab

,set up again and cast out and a bit later i saw a lot of bait fish so i put on the feathers and got 2 small pollack

no mackerel to be seen at all

Hello Gerry,
Glad to see you got something for all your travels, hopefully it's the last time in a while you'll have to drive that many miles to save a blank! I'd agree with Lucky, and in my experience if it's French cars, then they are collecting the best of food for the table.
