Report:

North Wexford beach 12-06-10 : After getting a few small smoothies over the last few weeks in the North Wicklow area , I decided to head a bit further south to North Wexford in the search for some larger specimens of the same species  . I arrived at the beach and there was a comp going on. I got a doggie on rag on the first cast ,followed by a double of smoothie pups on prawn from Aldi on the second. There was some weed but it didnt really become a problem till the tide dropped later on and the line was picking it up.There was a really strong run of tide carring the rigs up the beach ,even gripleads, but there was no one fishing near me so it wasnt a problem. A ,nice quiet evening fishing (especially with Fishface on holliers  ) with me getting 6 pups ,the largest at 45cms, and 3 doggies which I thought might be bigger smuts but it was just wishful thinking  . Headed off at 11pm and just missed the rain.

Dun Laoghaire 13-06-10: With about a dozen small ragworms left over and the Missus wanting to go for a spin I hatched a clever plan to get me to Dun Laoghaire and hopefully a goldsinney wrasse for the species hunt. She went for the "nice day for a walk down the pier at Dun Leary" routine and I started to pack a few things for the walk, including the worms and a small rod as "I just want to test out the new reel I bought". I had put my winter fishing IMAX suit in a plastic bin bag to put away as apparently the rest of the family could get a smell off of it   ,,,,but I couldnt find the bag anywhere. It turns out she had only gone and donated a load of stuff to the charity shop   ,including my black bag,,,,,,and after all the praise I gave her recently  . We later rescued my black bag which was among 50 other bags ready to be taken away,,,,,,,,,what a narrow escape  .I prayed that it was still in the shop,,,I had a vision of someone begging at Newlands Cross wearing my Orange Imas suit,,,,come to think of it its perfectly suited to that purpose as you could beg in all weathers and it also has high visibility for safer begging in between traffic
We got to Dun Laoghaire and easily got a parking space, not surprising as it was pi$$ing rain out. . When it eased off we headed down the pier to the Bandstand . I set up the small rod and impaled a rag on the hook and dropped him down the side. There was only about 6 or 7 foot of water as the tide was well down but I felt some little nibbles but missed the fish :? . Then the skies darkened and the heavens opened. Herself got under cover but me being the hero kept fishing as i had a rain jacket on me  .Unfortunately all the jacket did was funnel the water directly down onto my jeans which got soaked in no time. I was absolutely saturated  .When it eased off herself headed back to the car ,put on the heater and dried off. I kept fishing and caught a small pouting  .No Goldsinneys this time, i'll get the tides better next time.

Dave,

I wrote a cracking reply to your post but decided to delete it , if you wanted to catch decent hounds the last month or so there has only been one stretch of coastline to fish..............no need to blow the UN fuel budget chasing fish down the wicklow/wexford beaches..................unless your missing you buddy fishface :P...................the're on your doorstep

Excellent report and pictures Dave, very well done mate. Congratulations on catching the tope pup, you must be well pleased with that. That's what I call a top class new species to add to your list. I hope you have sent Neil at least 20 text messages telling him about that one   since he's rubbing it in to you what he is doing in Ibiza
I had a really good giggle to myself when I read about the drama with your Imax suit - I can laugh now that I know you got it back but if you hadn't have it wouldn't have been funny at all.
Oh dear, the missus was very nearly in the bad books. I haven't done anything quite like that to K2 yet thank goodness, he would kill me if I did!
I bet Helen was very relieved too that you found it or there would have been a rather expensive fathers day present on the way to you this sunday
