Report: Well after a bit of planning two weeks back Dan and I had decided to hit west and fish a few marks we knew and one we hadn’t tried before. The plan was to meet up on Friday fish the new mark into dark and the head back to a camp site for the night so as we could hit it again in the morning. So met up with Dan around 17:00 on Friday at the Campsite and headed off for the new beach mark we had picked from one of the OS Maps. Once we had arrived and picked the area at the Mark we thought was best, there was no delay in getting the lines wet. The first half an hour was quite with only a few knocks and we were beginning to wonder if this mark would produce as the tide was now well and truly on the way out. Then we began to realise that the Spider Crabs were out in force as we both had numerous rigs come back stripped, no snoods, hooks and the lot gone.
Then a nice rattle on one of my rods and shortly after a nice 37cm flounder (1.6lbs) which we did not expect as we were targeting thornies, dogs and the possible Huss. So were off the mark. New Rigs on with plenty of Bling and a switch over to Rag, but once again the Spiders were stocking up on the Bling and our tackle…
After another half an hour passed and after baiting one of the rods up and casting out, the lead hadn’t hit the bottom, then Smash! What was that I thought, couldn’t be.. Then Smash again and I struck, Yes game on… After a bit of a tussle and nice bend in the rod I managed to get it into the shore and Yes a fine Ballen Wrasse (2.2lbs – Result from the shore). Two species in the Bag.
Determined Dan was next of the mark with a nice doggie and we were both delighted as the dreaded blank was saved. Determined Dan had a few more doggies to add to his tally and things started to go quite.
We debated whether to call it as the tide was now 5hrs the other side of Full but decided to give it another hour and rebait up the rods. So in with the first rod and great I though snagged..but then gave and I thought I was pulling in a block, and would you believe it, Mr Spider had come to say hello minus our gear though! After a few photos we released him back to the depths and then after a while decided to pack up and go, when bonus just about to bring in the last rod when in came a doggie on it – Three species not counting Mr Spider – not a bad evenings fishing all round.
The next morning we hit one of the beach marks and again the tide was well on the way out. All the same we said we would give it a go and try for some flats. Shortly after setting up Doggie3131 and John (I think) dropped by to say hello, followed shortly after by Lucky. We were having the crack as normal while Determined Dan reeled in a double shot of Flounder. Off the mark again… The Lads headed off and I was next into a flounder. Nice to meet the lads again and thanks for the tips Noel. We fished on until 14:30 with Dan having four Flounder and two for me. All in all a great session with the tides on the way out…
