After a rocky start and some brief rants on North Dublin fishing

I'm finally startin to settle in and am learning that there is actually fish about if ya know what youre doing and find the right spots. Spoke to a few lads from my area and got some great advice and lessons. Not sure if I can give names cause I dont want every newby in Dublin bomb-barding them with requests

but Im sure theyll let themselves be known on this thread if they want....
Headed down to the mark after work to hook up with le mentor

Rods out by 8.30ish. Hooked the first lad bout 9.30pm. What a fight! Ive always heard of this magical "knock on the rod" but never really believed it would be that drastic. Low and behold I light up a smoke and on returning my eyes to the rod tip I recall asking myself "I dont remember my rod being U-shaped!". So I leggit over and start to reel. No strike needed. Fish was well hooked. Took a few minutes to get him in alright. He had me under rocks and all sorts. Finally got him in. Smut of about 5lb. Hour or two passed, some big bites missed (but not on the cornbeef sambos) had another. Very similar to the first fella only slightly bigger and a much better fight. He kept comin towards me so I would think I lost him only to have the rod dip and pull again. Great craic! A lot different than the epic battles Ive had with the Balscadden starfish!
So not a lot caught but enough to make me a happy bunny. My first Smoothie, taken of the wishlist and put on the catch list. Looking forward to the end of the bass ban. Hopefully I wont be waiting to long for one of them guys. Beginners luck on the smuts? Hopefully not.
P.S. Apologies for the photoshopping but I would be killed if I gave away the mark
