Report:

MARK 1 HELENS BAY COUNTY DOWN 11AM TO 2PM
today was going to be a bumper day of fishing as i planned a morning session with mark at helens bay for a bit of rock fishing. so with jordan dropped off to school i picked mark up and headed on out to start fishing. things were a bit on the poor side with me only getting 3 bites for the entire session which produced a single doggie for me and mark caught a lovely wee red reef cod on a set of feathers fished under a sliding float. he was the biggest codling i've seen taken from round there in a good while weighing in at a pound and a quarter :D

MARK 2 DONEGAL BEACH 6PM TO 10PM
with mark dropped off at home i picked jordan up from school and hit the road to meet up with saving private brian for an evening session on a donegal beach in search of a thornie. brian mentioned that he'd never caught one from the shore before, so that was his target species for the session. we were all set up and fishing within minutes and i was first to land a wee thornie weighing in at 2 and a hlaf pounds. another soon followed a bit heavier at just over 4lb and brian had a flounder. he then got a slack liner and reeled in a lovely wee sea trout at just over a pound and a quarter, but still no ray :x . finally his rod got a good knock and in came a lovely thornie at just over 6lb :P MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!. i could breathe a sigh of relief as he'd got his target species. but poor jordan was looking at another blank :? so by 10pm we said our farewells to brian and headed off to portrush harbour to try and make sure jordan did'nt go home fishless

MARK 3 PORTRUSH HARBOUR CO ANTRIM 11.40PM TO 1AM
with jordan wondering where he was going wrong we decided to stop off at portrush harbour to try to ensure he was'nt going home fishless again. this spot has always been good to us in the past and you'll usually get something even if it's only small, but something none the less  . jordan set up at the end of the harbour casting towards the beach and was getting little tugs from the start and quickly got a wee poor cod and a pouting. great the blank was beaten  . he then movede on round the harbour to another spot to try for something a bit different and was rewarded with a few wee whiting. by now it was nearing 1am and we decided to call it a day and head for home.

doggie3131 wrote:nice fishing there lads, see that rod is getting great use :D :D lots of lice on that trout!

  that rod has taken a brave ammount of fish since it's change of ownership   . i love the balance it has between being sensitive enough to register small bites, but having enough backbone to bully heavier fish outta the rough stuff :P i'll be giving it a name next    . the trout must have recently escaped a gill net as he had cuts on either side of his gills that those bloody lice had homed in on  but i made sure he had them all removed with the tweezers before he went back
