Wexford 31/05/2010

People: Just me

Duration: 20:00 - 23:30

Tide: High at 10pm or so

Weather: Light rain at first, then heavy rain, then windy rain, then crazy sideways heavy rain

Bait: Frozen peeler and mack

Rigs: Pulleys

Results: 1 doggie and 2 pup smoothies

Report: Got a bit of a break in the work schedule so decided to head out for a few hours after a disastrous blank on thursday - (it was the first inter-county fishoff between Dublin and Wexford ie me and dave from the site and he beat me with a nice smoothound). Tide was looking pretty good so headed out to a local beach with smoothies as the target. Picked up an emergency mack from tescos to try for a doggie and avoid the blank just in case. Also had a few frozen peelers that i'd picked up last week from Des in Hayes in Wexford. Stocked up on xlayers, patchinkos and tide minnows from him too and can't wait to test them out. They look the business. Roll on June 15th. Got to the beach and first signs looked good, not too rough, not a lot of weed around and a few lads fishing down the way so figured the spot was worth a shot. Got a little doggie on a mack sliver at distance just before dark so blank avoided. happy days. Got a pup about an hour into dark on peeler with a second an hour or so later. Both fish at distance and on large baits. Bites weren't what i was expecting, fairly timid but as usual the fish went crazy in the shallows. Nice to feel a bit of fight from a fish for a change. Both were starrys, first tiny, second about 2 pounds but delighted to actually catch what i was targeting! Roll on warmer weather

Well done Ronan, I still can't believe you stayed out in that weather but I suppose you were rewarded. Roll on the 15th indeed, I'm itching to get back out after the bass.
