Wexford mark

Wed May 26, 2010 7:17 pm

People: shaneh and i

Duration: 9-12

Tide: on the drop

Weather: north easterly

Bait: crab and lug bitta mac too

Rigs: pulleys and flappers

Results: codling to 33cm, dogfish and one very nice 5lb hound

Report:

decided to try a different mark after a breif drive we set up camp and got fishing. the surf was nice so i decided to try in close with lug baits but was duely rewarded with a codling of about a pound and half. continueing on shane and i decided to fish for the smoothies at distance, when my rod slammed over mid snickers and coffee feast. the fish was fighting well sure enough a decent early hound emerged from the raging surf. the following cast was hit almost instantly and after a brief struggle the fish eventually broke free. shane meanwhile had to settle for a dog. s shane has the photos so he'l pop em up

want to try for a hound myself. When you say casting out far for them...how far?

What weight are you using to get the distance, what strength your line, and are you using shock leader?

thanks

paddy

well paddy we were fishing into a good headwind, so i'd say our casting was limited to about 80 meters, maybe a little more. we were using 5 and 6 oz breakaway impacts and niamix leads, and we did indeed use shockleader :)

cheers,
40lb shock leader will that do ???

go for something a little heavier, 60lb would be a little better.
