redcastle pier

with the sun out the missus decided to tag along and bring the stove, frying fan and a mountain of grub (wasen''t saying naw to that 8)) so me the missus and the daughter hit the pier, and was soon joined by the sister in law and her family and some other friends. the other half got the stove fired up and i set about setting up the rods. just after i got everything up and ready, bigbadtom and his missus arrived :D to be honest the fishing was crap!!!! when i arrived there was a trawler dredging up and down the shoreline for mussels, so on every cast our lines came back with about a stone of weed on them  but everyone was here with BBQ's and the stove was going full whack, so a change of location was out of the question, so me and tom just banged away with all types of bait, tom did manage a small flounder, witch dropped off at the edge   but the grub was flying down the pier at us 8) 8) 8) so we were happy camper's.
fishing was useless but the grub and crack was priceless :D :D

As you say Don the fishing was poor and that dredger didnt help churning up the water like that. The great weather the grub and the craic made up for the lack of fish. Days like that should be made compulsory, at least once a week. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Love the photo of you watching your tip, how many countless hours have we spent gazing into the sky.

There must be an element of insanity there some where.....

Nice one Don, it sounds like you's had a perfect day even though the fishing wasn't that good but it's not always about the fishing, it's the banter and laugh you have with everyone that counts and when your about I'd say that there is never any shortage of that!
Great report and pictures too.
The food in the picture looks lovely (you've made me hungry now even though I've just had my tea  ) but then it would be, the other half cooked it and let's face it, us women are better at the cooking lark than you lot anyday!!!
I love the hat Don  By the looks of how hot it was I think you needed it. That bald head of yours would have got burnt if you didn't have that on!

Pity about the fishing but then you cant have everything in 1 day. I think he was saying grace before dinner and not watching the rod tip.

Those dredges on the boat are scallop dredges, they wreck the bottom and make a helluva a commotion in the water while they're at it, so its not surprising all the fish had headed for the horizon.
