Tide- 11 to 4 lw at 130

Conditions- calm very little surf, bright with wind coming from the carpark direction.

Rigs- various

Bait- maddies, lug, crab and sandeel

Anglers- 23

With the Surf school stall all set up where the comp woulod usually be pegged we decided to head down to where the fish offs were pegged approx 2.5miles up the beach. In this area there are loads of gullies and deep holes at the low water mark that scream out FISH!!!! As 11 approached the concentration levels were at a peak and an array of trace and bait combinations were launched seaward! At the 1115 stage a few flounder made an appearance mostly falling to maddie and crab combo's. The majority of the flounder seemed to be of the small variety some undersize 15cm - 25cm. I myself had two undersize and a 20cm counter after an hour and a half..... not great considering the man on the next peg had 3over the 20 and 2undersize.

As low water approached I decided to attempt a shot at the dogs that are alleged to frequent the beach down to low water! Liers..... no dog but an interesting appearance! As I had waded to the other side of the sand bar an gave the cast a fair whack i estimated the bait hit the water approx 210 yards from the shoreline! The long retrieval was interesting as the was definatly extra weight and the slightest of knocks could be felt as the lead got closer to the beach...... sure enough as it came through the shallows the knocks became more apparant and a shadow was most certainly behind the lead! A 34cm 1lb Dab.... cue bemused faces and a big grin for me! Alas my expertly targeted dab took most of my luck with it and no fish obliged for me again until 25mins to go I ended up with 5 fish 3counters and two undersize which counted for 5points apiece under the new club rules! The winner was Aidan O Sullivan with 11 fish pegged next to me  Eugene Farrelly 8fish including 4Turbot one of 32cm another rare visitor on match day and in third Pa'the explorer'Egan. A good day was had by all
