The day before, Saturday, headed down to my regular Wexford mark only to be met with rough seas and a wind blowing force 5 to force 6. Made my mind there and then to head to Courtown to get a bit of lug, cause I was not going to fish that day.
Returned home and went to bed early. Set the alarm for midnight. Took off again this time tuter way and headed down to me Kilkee area mark.
Set up at about 5am with the tide falling. Using mackerel, squid and lug. First cast… bang.. fish on… small LSD. Taken on lug three hook flapper, top hook.
Second cast….. wallop…. Fish on. Thornie Raymondo….. 4lb……
Went slack for a while until about 9am. Then another clatter…. Flounder… An hour later….. smack….. and another flounder. Both fell to lug.
At about 11am the bell gave a tinkle. Another fish… this time whiting.
By midday I was knackered so decided to face into the four hour journey home and headed for the hills after a good day’s fishin’.

Well done surfrod, we fished not far away from that area on Saturday night and all we had was a couple of flounders to show for our efforts, good size thornie there, bet you the journey did not seem that long after having a good session
Again well done

The worst about living in the midlands in Laois is that to get to any shoreline any where in this country...
It’s at least an hour and a half travel......
But ya know us anglers…....
Have rod will travel......
Tight lines lads…..
