Sorrento Point (6th May) & Fish ID please

Mon May 10, 2010 2:47 pm

People: Me & Stephen8wood

Duration: 8-10pm

Tide: rising

Weather: Dry, calm

Bait: Rag & Mack

Rigs: Various

Results: 1 fish (?? - see below), 1 Pouting, 1 Dab, 1 space alien

Report: We hadn't been out in a while and so thought we'd give the rocks a go to try and get a few mack. No joy. I caught a tiny pouting then Stephen caught the fish below. He had a spikey spine and we though he might have been a weever. But then we had doubts and thought he might be a rock goby. Anyone know what he is?

I then caught a double of a small dap and a glowing space alien. 'twas the wierdest looking yolk I've pulled out of the sea.

A nice couple of hours if rather unproductive.

The top one looks like a dragonet alright, a species that still alludes me. I have no idea what the space alien is though, maybe a sea slug or something like that? Anyway nice fishing lads, well done.

nice one beebub. first one deffo a dragonet and i have'nt got a clue about the second one. the dragonet's are hard enough to come by and the females outnumber the males by a long shot. they are easy enough to tell apart with the males having neon blue eyes and the females having orange eyes  . just be careful with the serated spikes on the edge of the gill case as they will slice you open like a stuck pig   . i've had 2 bigger ones slice me open good and proper before. i reckon there must be some sort of anti coagulant on the slime that covers their body as the cuts they give you don't seem to stop bleeding for ages   but if you simply wrap the wee fish in a towel they cant slice you
