Report:

Sat 8-5-10,,,Pennycomequick, co wicklow,,,,,,,,Myself and Neil had fished at Pennycomequick on Saturday night which hadnt produced much. All i got was 2 flounder and a coalie but poor Fishface only got a flounder,a nice fat one though  .Highlight of the night down there was when we (Neil) spotted a sea otter, only the third one ive seen in the wild, and it was worth the entrance fee to be honest and made up for the lack of fish. Rumours of bass and smoothies taken further down the coast a bit (we could see their lights and we flashed each other  ) turned out to be untrue   .

Sunday 9-5-10,,,,,,I went to Greystones to use up leftover bait from Saturday night(thanks Neil for the lug  ). There was a French guy there when I arrived and as i set up he was telling me not to cast this way etc etc,to set up over this side of him etc etc,,,,,,,,,,,,red rag to a bull  "I'm fine where i am",i said "If you set up over here you wont be crossing me",he said.  "Dont worry about me crossing you,i'm fishing in close",I said. "Do you need the whole ocean to yourself",I said,,,,,,,,,"I was here first",came the reply."I'm here 48 years  ",I thought to myself but being a quiet lad I said nothing.I cast out a ragworm in close on a single hook with the small rod and waited,,,"I'll show him", I thought to myself   ,,,,,,,,,,but he pulled in a nice flounder ,,,,,,,,,on the float   ,,,,,,,,,,,,Then another one,  . I got a nice lively coalie soon after which settled me down  .Then I spottted a big porpoise breaking the surface and called to the French guy to have a look. He came up to talk and we decided that we had gotten off on the wrong foot and would start again   . He said my coalie was a pollock,,,,,,,a white pollock as they called them in France. He headed off as the light faded and I hooked into a small doggie.I started to get a few bites and had another coalie and a couple of really small whiting in quick succession. Then came a nice flounder, on rag which seemed to be working better than the lug tonight.I was really enjoying it now and in one of the quiet moments I sat down and contemplated the last few days. I had travelled up and down the N11 to wicklow,I always admire the beautiful scenery  ,,,,,,I had done a bit of Horsewhispering with the beach ponies at Ennereilly,,,,,,I been blessed to see a sea otter ,,,,,,,and now tonight I had seen a porpoise surfacing as he patrolled up and down in front of where i was fishing from,,,,,,,,What a wonderful world it is and what beautiful sights there are to behold 8) ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Then a f*ck"ng rat nearly ran into my foot, the dopey ba&t?rd and ruined the rest of my night  .I was nearly finished up anyways, but after seeing 4 of our fat furry friends in quick succession I had had enough and it was time to contact the Enterprise and get Scotty to beam me up.The missus arrived 15 minutes later as i was packing up and unhooking another, larger doggie,,,which isnt easy to do when youre freaked out about rats. I 'll have to start tying bells to my ankles to let the rats know i'm around

Great report - true when fishing you get to see lots of sights that you would probably never see otherwise - one time down in Crookhaven, West Cork I bunch of basking sharks can into the small bay I was fishing in and cruised around close to the shore for an hour or so.
Unfortunately there is also a mark I fished last year that seems to be infested with rats after dark - they were popping up all over the place and trying to get into my tackle bag

only seen this now this reminds me of a mack bashing session down at poolbeg myself and 2 friend had a few years back
my mate put all the fish into a heavy duty plastis bag. i dont take any of the fish. he goes home gives the wife the bag of fish to clean out she empties the bag in to the kitchen sink and lo and behold bob geldof and two of his mates looking up at her. panic stations gets a phone call to come straight over. 2 of us and a neighbours stupid jackrussel and i say stupid because all it done was bark at us pulling out presses and fridges took 3 hrs to get the bastards

Brilliant..... :D

Fishing a comp at the beginning of last year at the front of the slip in Ballinwilling, reached for my prebaited trace and got quite a shock when it pulled back. Yup, there swinging off the end of it was Roland himself. Well, Messrs O'Gara and Wilkinson didnt have a patch on me as one unmerciful wader clad right foot boot drop kicked Mr Rat up and over the other side of the slip, albeit with my bait and snood in his gob..... Not a pleasant experience, hate the feckers with a passion.

That reminds me of one day when I was cutting the grass in the park with the tractor mower,,,I'm going up and down the field and I see a guy jogging around the perimeter of the field,,,,,,,,theres a rabbit with miximitosis having fits and generally dying and as the jogger comes round the corner and sees the rabbit he gives him a boot about 10' in the air, without even losing his stride and then continues on his jog  ,at least he put him out of his misery

Eyes - if you post his picture & everyone here give him some sticks when we see him next, that would probably calm his over-rated enthusiasm  .

That is the reason i prefer to fish in Ireland than in France: there are too much french anglers in France! And they know all the things better than everyone.
But this guy came certainly from Paris (the worse).
Another French guy from Tours,
Eriden

Lads,,,,,,,we DID decide to start again ,having got off on the wrong foot,,,,he was probably just being too helpful and I took him up the wrong way,,,,,there again I dont think i'd go to France and lay claim to their territory and tell the natives what to do,its just not what we Irish do  ,,,,,,,,,,except when we were part of the British Empire  ,,,,,but thats another story ,one we tend to forget
