Report:New venue for me so arrived early to see what the beach looked like at low water. Listened to the end of the Munster match on the radio before setting up.
Not even a tap for four hours, then the bites started when it should have been time to go home. Failed to hook anything for a while but then foul hooked a flounder. Soon after got what I thought was another spotted one but it had the rough nodules on its head, a small plaice (new species for this year). Still didn't think it was worth a 200 mile round trip.
Started to pack up the small rod when I decided to have 1 last cast on the big one while I tidied up. Baited up with the last of the lug, which were really only skins and sandy tails, a sorrowful sight. Decided to call it a night after 10mins, and pretty dejectedly started to reel in. After about 10 turns on the reel the rod took a jump, second time in 2 days that a bass has hit my bait on the retrieve. Talk about a mood swing, big smiles and 'thank you gods'. It weighed in at 3lb 8oz, not huge, but its a new PB for me. Sailed home on a high.
