People: gordo, fuller, dodger and mastersizzle
Duration: 8-12
Tide: on le flood
Weather: nice
Bait: lug, whites, mac, sandeel and rag
Rigs: three hook flapper
Results: my own tally was 14 flounder, 3 dabs, 1 turbot, 3 rockling, 2 whiting and my first sea trout of an size
Report: to bray head said conor? surely not, i could get misleading here and say we did hit the infamous bray head but alas we settled on a good oul reliable wexford beach. john and i arrived around 8ish to find the seat inca raleigh team had set up and were already fishing. for their efforts they had managed to accumulate an impressive tally of 2 flounder between the three of them. by the time we had walked down to them, talks of moving spot were already in full deliberation.
for my own first cast i decided to wade out the 40 or so yards to the bank and try and fish at extreme distance, a three hook clip down armed with a white, lug and rag tipped with mac trio was sent out well over the kelp beds. by the time i had walked back to the tripod i noticed my 7ht mag was now completely empty, ideed to the innocent by stander it would have appeared i was a savage caster, but to the man in the know, he would have sussed the reel was never full to begin with, still it was out a fair way and there it stayed for the 29 minutes and 60 seconds of a half an hour. reeling saw me get stuck twice in the kelp and by the time i got the trace to land, conor had reeled in another flounder under my nose, to make matter worse the clip down was now one snood short as the mixed ground took its toll. new snood attached, which was incidently the bottom snood off a loop rig , still with the cascade attached to it, my new improvised three up, loop flapper was ready to go out for another cast. this time i stuck with the good oul reliable lug and mac.
now that i had wrecked my swim inside the bank by clumsely wading all over it i opted to toss the rig just behing the last breaking wave on the bank. with visions of treble flounday in mind, i loosed off some slack line and let the wave motion twitch the bait, how romantic eh? with another half an hour gone and no more fish to show a futher debate had us ready to pack up. all that had to be done was to reel the gear in and head off. a few turns of the reel had the slack line back on the spool, and to my surprise some weight revieled itself on the rod. treble flounday? surely not. with no appearent fight and still the weight remained, it was clear now it was either a piece of weed, a dogfish who lived in a foot of water or the promised flouday triplet. out of the surf came a blueish shadow, ok a it was now appearent i had managed a schoolie, that would explain the crap fight and due to our location it seemed a reasonable explanation. through the wave it came and what lay on the beach can ony be described as john west's vision of eutopia, a perfectly conditioned silver trout, a sea trout i believe their called, and a tasty looking one too! sadly the guilt of commiting such a crime, ie. smashing its face of a convinient stone and smothering it with a plastic bag was too much for my conscious to bare. released it was to fight another day. still i was fairly chuffed, it was my first ever sea tout over 20cm and in my opinion my first ever sea trout!
with the lads in complete awe of my amazingness we carried on and all thoughts of relocation were banished to the back of their minds. to make matters more interesting the rest of the fish decided to show up too. thankfully for the following three hours i managed at least a fish a cast bar one more cheeky attempt at range for a sneaky dog or pup hound. plenty of flounder in the 20-25cm bracket, a couple of dab up to 27cm and a little turbot made for an entertaining night! the rest of the lads can add codling, dgfish and shore rockling to the species tally.

It was 3lb Al. When I heard the shout I ran over thinking it was a puppy smut following talk of a few taking there during the week. My heart sank when I seen the silver because I thought it was only a spikey herning. Then I seen the head and the black spots. Beautiful looking fish too. Fair play to Rodger and Eric working the fish in the breakers to get it going again. Quick flick and she was off. Other then that it wasn't a great session. But at least Gordy found the beach this week
