I was relieved to open the blinds this morning and see the sun shining and not a ripple on the Killary outside the house, had a couple of rewarding sessions the past couple of weeks but then the weather decided to play puck and put us back to square one. So I had a good feeling about today.
So after a 45 min drive I met Doug who had a few guests too, Eugene and his son and nephew ,Callum and Dylan . We threw out the usual mix of flappers and pulleys loaded with bluey , sandeel and squid and waited . The young lads were first off the mark with a nice 30ish cm flounder , I decided to change my bait and was delighted and surprised to find I had hooked into a double of sea trout and flounder ( my first sea trout in 2 years ). The young lads to the right of me kept up the good work being rewarded with a 4 fish total for their days work (3 flounder and 1 turbot ) . Dougie was next in with a borderline keeper turbot but he decided to return it , .
Paddylav joined us and after a wee while with nothing he had a repeat performance with a turbot like Doug's (also returned ).
The craic was flying all day and the weather was great so another wee sea trout for me and another flounder for the pot ( and a turbot the size of a jaffa cake ) my day was made .
But Doug wasn't finished yet , he pulled a lovely flounder out of the hat (40cm). We fished for another hour or so with nothing else to show , but everybody left the beach happy and smiling.
