The mackeral are arriving

Caught 8 at the Bridges of Ross last weekend.

Its quite possible....we've been catching a few in Cork Harbour for the last few weeks, from a boat, though.

There were some caught just up the coast from there three weeks ago but they had dissapeared again.

Well I did catch them - every year I make a few early trips up there for a look..
I think it's great to get them - not half as tasty as they are later in the summer though - they didn't appeatr to have as much of that lovely oily flavour..

A lot of my mates wont bother going for them till late May / June because of the lack of oil in them, but its only at the start of the season that I can eat them because of the oils.. They keep repeating on me.. I say they keep repeating on me,

Having said that… last year I hot smoked a couple around July and had no trouble with the repeating.. I say I had no trouble with the repeating,

Small pockets of them have been spotted on the fish finders not far from kilkee last month but they were few and far between,

In mid April last year I sat fishing at the bridges and looked out at a flock of gannets about 3 mile out diving into what must have been a large shoal of feeding fish, I imagine it was mackerel and this was what pushed me over the edge to invest in a boat,

I have some work to do in kilkee so I will be travelling down tonight and will be there for a couple of days.. I might drive out there to see how many lurkers seen your post and decided to attack the place early.

Part of the work that i will be doing is to repair 4 burst water pipes that I had to Do a temporary repair on before I could get water running for the toilets and boiler.. All I had with me was chewing gum and masking tape so I started to fix the prob when I got back from fishing at 3am and I was so happy it worked,

But when the noise of the tanks filling with water stopped I could still hear water running, so I went outside to see another pipe had burst so had to turn everything off as by this time 4am I was shattered.

Good tip though if your ever stuck, Lidl chewing gum works wonders and sets hard as stone,
