Bray harbour, east pier 26-3-10

Mon Mar 29, 2010 12:53 pm

People: Just myself

Duration: 15:00 - 19:30

Tide:

Weather: Pretty good, nice and warm but turned dodgy towards the end

Bait: Lug and Mackeral

Rigs: 3 hook flapper

Results: 1 Good sized Flounder (i think!!), 6 Pollack, 4 codling, 1 decent sized cod, coalies, and a double sea scorpion!!! and about 15 crabs!!

Report: Well, here goes my 1st ever report!! Hadnt been sea fishing in a few weeks so decided to get out and wet the lines for a few hours. Was a toss up between going to dalkey or going to greystones, couldnt decide so split it down the middle and went to bray!! Had only fished here once before so hadnt a clue what to expect, so picked up some mackeral off boycie and got some lug in Viking. Got there and decided to just use the spinning rod and fish just a few feet out. Payed off straight away with the first fish a pretty good sized Flounder (i think it was a flounder anyway!!) :?: , then the crabs took over and i must have had at least 15 - 16 of the feckers. Moved up onto the top wall then and lobbed the bait a few feet out again, and for the next while was kept pretty busy with the small pollacks and coalies and codlings and 1 pretty decent looking cod. The weather started to turn then so i started to pack up, and when i went to pull the rod in it started to bite a bit. And when i got it in, to my suprise, there was 2 sea scorpions on it   . I have never caught one of these little beauties before so wasnt actually sure what it was to be honest. Rang up the boycie fella and sent him a picture of it, to be told it was 2 sea scorpions. So a first for me and it was a double, so was pretty chuffed with myself on that 1. When i took the hook out of the larger one's mouth (it was 1 large one and a baby one), a small half eaten one was in its mouth. Think i'll just call it a treble!!!

So all in all, was probably my best days fishing so far, so roll on summer!!!

I'm just back from there again. Same set-up, but not great results. 2 pollack, and another pesky load of crabs.........and that was that!! Got dark and the fish stopped biting, was wierd! Suppose i deserved it for chancing my arm going there again!!

Cheers reilly. Yea, they are a great lookin little fish. Was a bit freaked out when i heard the little grunts 1st, didnt know what the hell it was!!
And i always lob the spinning rod out too whenever im on a pier or rock mark, its a bit better craic than a big beachcaster or a boat rod. Tis just handy

nice job congo ,used to fish that pier myself before i moved to crappytown ,found the bend to be the best spot ,very rough ground but can be very good with surprising rewards. dont suppose you got a pic of the good sized cod . think i might give it a go tonight if the rain holds off. anybody looking to move to bettystown living around bray, we could swap houses :!:
