Greystones Rocks 27-03-10

Sun Mar 28, 2010 3:34 pm

People:me

Duration:6pm-10-30pm

Tide:high at 9-30pm approx

Weather:flat calm, dry, mild

Bait:lug mack squid

Rigs:2 and 3 hook flappers

Results:1 x flounder, 2 x short spined scorpions, 3 x coalies, 2 x 5 beard rockling, 1 x codling.

Report:With my son borrowing my car for the w/end, I had to scupper plans to go a bit further south along the East Coast  .I managed to get a lift as far as Greystones with a promise to be collected in a few hours so I set up hopeful of a few fish. Big Mick had been in Bray Harbour the night before , getting 9 fish including a few decent flounder,,,,,,,so with this in mind and after reading Rogers report earlier I was confident of a few fish. My last trip to Greystones had been to the North beach on a falling tide and I had just about avoided the blank but with a rising tide I was expecting better. I had 2 rods out , 1 at about 100 yds and the other at my feet at the base of the rocks. First up was a short spined sea scorpion from under my feet and this was followed by a double of a codling and a flounder at distance.3 fish already and it was still bright, happy days   .Then some stringy weed made an appearance and I had a few dissappointments when I reeled in weed instead of fish, good fight though  .I was sorry I had checked the computer before I left 'cos I kept thinking about all those baby bass on a strand in Wicklow   .I tried mack at distance for Doggies seeing as theyve made an appearance in Bray but no joy  ,,,,,,,,,,,in truth I had to winkle out some more fish in close with fresh lug on a small hook catching me some rockling and coalies. The coalies just seemed to go for the lug just after it hit the water and you have to be careful here or youll lose your tackle. The rockling will snag you under rocks, but luckily I was able to give them line and walk around to pull from another angle and tug them out of their hidey holes.I finished off with 9 fish,,,,,,,,all small, pleasant enough night to be out and not a rat in sight

nice fishing Dave, its good to see reports of fish been got, for its still very quiet up this neck of the woods, but with the water temp; starting to rise, things should start happening fairly soon, i hope
