Strangford Lough, Co. Down 06/03/2010

Sat Mar 06, 2010 11:54 am

People:Myself

Duration:1 hour

Tide:Low water or close to.

Weather:Dry and sunny

Bait:Spinner

Rigs:

Results:1 Seatrout

Report:Delighted to finally get out fishing again, was agony waiting for the Seatrout season to begin. Anyway got to the mark at the exact same time as another angler who was telling me a few trout were getting caught in the lough already. So without wasting time we both hit the mark. Third or fourth cast the other angler was into a trout, fish was probably only around the pound mark but it got a bit of interest going. A few casts later and I was in, a fish of around the same size. Both fish were quite long but very thin, we both assumed they were both fresh from spawning, so they were released quickly to gain a bit of weight. For this reason I didn't get any pics, but hopefully next journey will get a few. Unfortunately I could only last an hour as my waders are far too tight on me and my feet were killing me, gonna purchase a new pair shortly. Good to get the season up and running! :)

Very good Rodger. Waders were always a little bit tight, bought on ebay on the cheap and should have returned them straight away. Just have to get myself a new pair. License is only £17 for a whole year chum!

Got him on a Jensen Seatrout lure 15gram (colour blue and silver). Its a Danish made lure, definately one for every trout anglers lure box.

 56 euro for one district over here...

Nice way to start the season. :D They're fairly scrawny around here too at the moment, usually May before they're back in top condition. Must try that lure, I usually freeline for them.

Firstly congrats mate on gettin your fish. Is it on £17 to fish for the trout? I thought it was a lot more expensive than that?? Would I only need a rod licence to fish the lough? As you may have guessed I am a novice when it comes to the sea trout fishing

All you need is a game fishing license Dawsey and its £17 for us up North. Only when you fish for seatrout in freshwater then you will require a permit also.
