slipway, salthill 10/2/10

Wed Feb 10, 2010 11:32 pm

People:myself and kaylemf

Duration:2 hours

Tide:low and dropping

Weather:flat calm, cold, foggy

Bait:mack

Rigs:running ledgers, pullys and flappers

Results:whiting

Report:we both decided to try the slipway for a conger session, got a few whole mack and we were off. Baits went out around the edge of the slipway and surrounding rocks. Nothing happened for about an hour when my ratched clicked for a second, nothing on it though except a crab. About 30 mins later i was reeling in my other rod when my rod was yanked off the tripod and when i picked it up and struck it the fish was in the rocks!  Anyway it happens! I reckoned there were a few small stray congers around, wasnt to be..cant wait till the water temp rises a bit and there will be plenty around again! I managed to get a small whiting on my last cast to save the blank. The fishing has gotten so poor around this area lately, time to get a car haha

Keep the chin up Chris, at least you caught something and didn't blank :D
It must be really frustrating for you not having a car, I'm sure there's loads of places you'd love to go fishing but you can't because you have no transport.
Keep up the good work in college and you'll soon have a good job and will be able to get one.
Then there will be no stopping you! The fish won't know what's hit them!

slow session man :( but at least you beat the blank :P . might be worth letting the drag off on your reel next time    seen a couple of rods going in the drink when something with a bit of weight hit them last year :x :x bloody costly mistake man   . if we're fishing for eels on the fixed spool i just slide a rubber lumo float stop up the line and set it level with the bail arm once the bait has settled. that way it does'nt matter that theres no wratchet to hear a run, just look at where the lumo bead is on the line

Thanks for the tips! I actually had the ratchet on, was pulling line while the rod was on the floor!
