People:just my good self

Duration:about an hour and half

Tide:full

Weather:lovely

Bait:crab

Rigs:4/0 pulley and about 5 other traces flappers

Results:dog and codling

Report:decided to stay local and boy am i glad i did. got set up and whipped out a pulley loaded to the hilt with crab. couple mins later got a few twitches then wallop fish on picked up the rod and started reeling. didnt get the fish a few feet and stuck solid tryed everything and eventualy had to give down and pull for the break. attached new shockleader and moved a bit further up the beach. whipped out a 3 hook flapper. about ten mins later got a few small twitches. left it alone for a few mins then reeled in a small codling. didnt take a pic in case it would have offended someone. next cast got another good bite but same thing as first cast stuck fast and pulled for the break again. managed to land a small lsd and loose another couple of traces and leader before i gave up and went home traceless

:) You did well to drag something ashore there. My first trip out this year I went home traceless and fishless, and had a long trek back to the car on which to ponder the glory of it all...

When I am fishing the snaggy places around Youghal I forget about shockleader and put on a spool of 35 or 40 lb line so I can usually pull out of the snag, might straighten out a few hooks but at least it minimizes the tackle loses.

Would you not be able to get your traces back if you went back at low water as i think there are wooden groins all along this section of the beach( i presume you were fishing by the car park across the road from the row of houses before the hill not out by the caravan park)

i might have been able to find a couple of them but to be honest it would just be easier to make a few new ones  i was fishing out the end of claycastle car park fishes well enough out there. normaly wouldn loose anything out there but the sand was shifting and exposeing a lot of stones which didnt help much

at least you got a few fish man. it would have been worse to leave traceless and fishless :( :( . might have ended up chucking the rod into the big blue

Loosing traces can be so annoying but it gives you a good excuse to go home and make some more!
At least you didn't blank.
That's good advice that Frank (rockhunter gave), as always.
